Yes (puts hand up)

Depixol stopped them for 2.5 years

Solian and Rispirodone left my chest leaking constantly and painfully. Breast pads lasted less than 30 minutes before soaked.

Ooo yes let's not forget the lactation my boobs swell for a month then one morning I wake up covered in milk embarrassing if I'm over someone's house. But at all other times the painfully engorged.

Yes but you should get a blood test if this happens. If prolactin raised doctor should try to find an alternative. Will depend how ill you are at the time.

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 26/01/2021 19:14

It's due to raised prolactin. All antipsychotics do it to a greater or lesser extent because they inhibit dopamine.
Aripiprazole should do it the least.

@starpatch I've told psychiatrist he's happy as it's not making me unwell just means my boobs are sore amd I have virtually no periods imagine it would only be a problem if I wanted another dc but I'm happy with 3dc would have loved a fourth but not at the cost of my sanity.

I expect you probably know this but I assume you are still using contraception too because the effect of the antipsychotic is not reliable enough to be sure you can't conceive although does make it less likely. Also if you did fall pregnant there would then be the worry of whether to come off the meds.

@CovoidOfAllHumanity use a diaphragm.

Psychiatry wasn't interested in even a doing a blood test and was just told to bear with it. Male psych who advised that if needed I should express little and often.

Didn't see it as a problem either that I was changing my top several times a day and in pain, until I had an early morning appointment and turned up to the clinic an hour early and as he entered the clinic I pointed out that my top was dry, 1 hour later when I was seen my top was completely soaked and it was only then he considered that I might have a problem.

With periods or lack of, he tried telling me that I subconsciously didn't want to have them. He was a twat.

Abilify was OK in it's own right and didn't have that problem however the constant diarrhoea was awful. In the space of 3 months I lost over 5 stone due to it. Apparently not concerning either, I have had to fight for second opinions on various occasions.

Thankfully body is happy with serequel after having to stop it two previous times.

Theodoreb · 27/01/2021 10:29

I can't take abilify makes me manic so I'm on haloperidol I'm happy with this.

Although your psychiatrist seems severely incompetent.

I take the mini pill (cerazette) to stop my periods as I get quite depressed & things feel unreal during my period.

If I forget it then I get a period straight away despite taking aripiprazole 30 Mg.

I don't think Aripiprazole is a really strong anti psychotic as I do get breakthrough symptoms still when I'm tired and stressed.

@NotanotherboxofFrogs I agree with @Theodoreb that your psychiatrist sounds awful. I hope you get a different one at some point.

Theodoreb · 27/01/2021 20:30

@Tehmina23 I was on olanzapine 20mg 10 years and that worked perfectly but I gained too much weight so swapped to haloperidol which works at about 80% or what olanzapine does but when I went on 3g aripiprazole I was still really manic and ended up having to give my kids to my mam till I was stable again. Wouldn't ever try it again.
