Mornings are getting to me

I was OK in Lockdown1 and 2. Lockdown3 is getting to me.

I am sleeping OK, but having really crazy dreams about all and everything and my anxiety has gone up. It is worse in the morning. I wake up anxious about anything and everything.

I seem to be OK after some exercise but getting to this whilst juggling home schooling, 3 meals a day, work and other peoples demands on my time is a struggle. I am spending a lot of time on my own as my DH and DC work in their rooms and I have a lot of time to dwell and ruminate.

I need to get myself up and in a positive mindset to get stuff done.

Any tips for dealing with anxiety in the morning. It is ruining my whole day as I am getting nothing done.

I understand the feeling although my circumstances are very different. Could you leave them to it in the mornings so that you can workout then? Perhaps the solution is to work it off as quickly as it comes on?

The only other thing I can think of is to meditate or do some breathing exercises when you get up - but none of these actually stop you waking up anxious.

I think the only way you could prevent being anxious on waking would be to tackle the anxiety as a more general thing.

I hear you. The mornings are pure hell if you're struggling with anxiety or depression. The day feels like a mountain to be climbed. I know its easier said than done, but I do a workout first thing - it makes me feel great and I've achieved something hard which I can feel proud of. I also need some tasks to complete during the day - nothing major, maybe change the sheets, cook dinner, go for a walk. Just a short list of stuff that I can tick off

And go easy on yourself - its totally normal and understandable to feel anxious at the moment

One thing I found that helped (didn't solve it - just helped) was keeping some Belvita breakfast biscuits and a glass of water by the side of the bed, and having both as soon as I woke up.

Low blood sugar can cause anxiety, and when you wake up you've not eaten for quite a while.

It's not a cure by any means, just something that can help a little, and get you going.

Get up, eat/drink those, have a shower and get dressed - and by the time you've finished your shower you'll feel at least a little bit better.

Obviously you should talk to your GP about other help, but this is something that I found helped specifically for mornings.
