ive been on fluexetine(prozac) for the past 6 months, at 1st it seemed to work but im feeling low again. I havnt slept properly for 8 months. Im not interested in anything, dont have an appetite, cant sit down to watch tv. its just like theres a big cloud over my head all the time. Ive made an appointment to see the dr again. Has anyone any ideas if she will prescribe me anything else or will she insist i see a counciller because i really dont want to do that.

hello sweetheart (((((((((((((((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))))))

i'm sorry i don't have much time to reply properly but couldn't go without saying hi. i am (supposed ) to be on fluoxetine as well. maybe it might well be worth goign to see the dr again, even if it is to discuss your options about changing your tabs as they don't seem to be working as well for you, from what you have said in your op.

one thing i will make time to say is that you will have a lot of support here on mn (not sure if you new or not), you may have to keep posting on the thread but it is worth it xxxxxxx

No one can insist on making you do anything, but can I ask why you don't want to see a counsellor?

She'll probably change your meds as they don't seem to be working for you... 6 months is long enough for them to have had an effect.

they did seem to work for the 1st few months but i still couldnt sleep properly but now they dont seem to have any effect. I just dont like the idea of talking to a counciller (silly i know) but im a very private person and just dont think i could do it.

Maybe she'll change the dosage although lack of sleep can be a common side effect as well as agitation and lack of appetite.

Can you identify anything that has contributed to you feeling like this?

Any good counsellor would take the time to develop a relationship with you to enable you to feel that you could talk to them over a period of time, and you wouldn't have to stick with the first counsellor you saw if you didn't feel you could talk to them. I can remember at my first session I just cried for most of the hour but slowly I managed to see how I could manage my behaviour and feelings etc...

thankyou, its made me feel abit better writing it down. Lots of things have contributed to it. I will try and consider seeing someone else to talk to as i dont have anyone to confide in apart from my DH.

No problem - Some GP's have counsellors in them however you normally only get 6 sessions (which can sometimes be enough or atleast to give you some space to manage your thoughts and feelings). If you can afford to go privately look on the BACP website to get someone who is fully accredited. Lots of other organisations offer subsidised fees if can't afford private fees.
Speaking to someone who is completely unconnected to you and your life can really help and will give you some space to talk about your needs.
