Not sure what the point of this is. I tried popping to town today to get some bits but kept feeling panicked and teary.

I am now having panic attacks several times a week and they are physically draining me. It's exhausting Sad.

I do have mediction that I am supposed to take whenever I feel panicked but they don't seem to work anymore.

What damage am I doing to DS by being a mum who can't function and be normal?

Can't just read and not reply. If you're on medication then I assume you have seen your doctor. You really need to go back and discuss it and possibly ask for therapy.
I can't comment about your DS as you haven't given much information but generally I'd say you need to take care of yourself in order to take care of others.. Hope your situation improves @EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire

I'm just scared because I can't be normal and he will probably realise that. He has a freak for a mum Sad.

I have had a lot of counselling pre covid but not sure how it works these days.

Are you anxious anyway or are these totally out of the blue?

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 19/12/2020 00:55

Yes I have anxiety but never like this. It is getting ridiculus now and I find I can't function anymore because they drain me.

You are not a “freak”, @EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire. Loads of people have panic attacks. It’s absolutely horrible, but it does not make you a freak.

I can’t recommend this book enough, there is also a linked work book.

There’s some basic advice on the NHS website: www.nhs.uk/conditions/stress-anxiety-depression/understanding-panic/

There’s no magic cure, it’s a matter of plodding through techniques that can help you manage them. I don’t get them at all now.

You need to go back and speak to your GP.

Sometimes it can be appropriate for medication to be increased...eg some people have prescriptions for betablockers, and these can come in vastly different presecritpion strengths.

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 19/12/2020 02:50

Yes I think you are right.

I can't sleep at night but I also feel so tired and drained.

How old are you op? Peri-menopause or a hormonal imbalance might be the cause of your panic attacks.

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 19/12/2020 03:10

I turn 30 in February so I hope not Grin.

Sometimes techniques and beta blockers aren’t enough you might need an SSRI/ antidepressant.

Honestadviceneeded · 20/12/2020 19:16

Definitely go back to your doctor. It might be that you end up trying a range of different things before you find a combination that works. At the minute for me counselling, mirtazapine and beta blockers are getting my panic under control but it has taken a lot of trial and error to get there.

From what I can see at the minute, it depends on the counsellor what they offer. Lots are working via zoom, you can get counselling on instant messaging, some are still doing face to face and some will do going for a walk or sitting somewhere outside. Explore and see what you can find that will work for you.

There will be a root to the attacks and identifying it can be really helpful.

I Also felt the same way about being a mum. It was so hard and I felt like I was failing but honestly, once I started to get some control back over the attacks, I was able to get myself together enough to parent.
You are most definitely not a freak. You are struggling and that is totally normal and okay. Hang in, it really will get better...even if it gets a little worse first. Flowers

I found I almost eradicated panic attacks (I never have proper ones, just vague feelings of dread etc which don't have a big impact on my life) using a mix of acceptance therapy (look it up) and some guided hypnosis on YouTube. I had struggled for many years and it worked better than CBT or counselling. Good luck!

Do you suffer from any stomach problems like acid reflux, indigestion, gallbladder problems? Do you smoke? Do you drink? Do you consume much caffeine? Do you get enough sleep?
