Mirtazapine and venlafaxine prescribed together?

I've read some fairly positive stuff on them being used in tandem to treat resistant depression, and my GP has agreed to add some venlafaxine to the 30mg mirtz I'm currently being prescribed. Does anyone have any experience of being prescribed the two together that they wouldn't mind sharing?

I had the two Co prescribed, it was bout 3years ago, it got changed and changed had difficulty with wanting to over eat and aside from that noticed nothing. However have been properly diagnosed ADD... Got all the way to 42 not knowing. Now on venla. Max does 450mg and 600mg pregabilin which is for the add whe other one for depression. What I will say is coming off venlafaxine is horrendous so I won't try again. I do hope you feel better soon x

Thanks for the reply marge I'm glad you got your ADD diagnosed. My GP did refer me to adult ASD services, but they couldn't diagnose apparently without school reports or input from parents (who were abusive, so a no-go). The venlafaxine dose I'm being prescribed is only small (37.5?)

I'm on 450, please don't let them put it as high as this, it's a bastard to come off, ADD is formally known as adhd. ASD, is trickier, but marked as likely, I've got a referral three years and waiting, but similar problem with parents, however I've got some of theess endearing traits :)

It’s becoming more common to prescribe the 2 together for resistant depression. I’ve been on venlafaxine for years and was prescribed mirtazipine a couple of years ago when I had a particularly bad dip. I had to stop after 2 weeks because I wanted to eat the entire house, and as I have a weight problem anyway the doc agreed that the issues I’d have with weight gain would negate any positive outcome

Same problem judge, I'm sure met. Was is prescribed for anorexic cats, I shit you not.

I can't comment on both together but Duloxetine and Mirtizapine 45 have pulled me out of a deeply suicidal time, I've been on both 5+ years alongside other meds with various degrees of success but had to come some due to side effects.. Depakote, lyrica, gabapentin, lamactil now taking carbmazapine and serequel with this and it's keeping me from the total hopelessness.

Thanks for the replies Smile

I've been prescribed gabapentin before, (nerve pain) and found that all the social anxiety/angst melted away whilst on it. So that's interesting that it can be prescribed for depression Frogs. Maybe I should have stayed on it!

I have become rather food obsessed since starting the mirtz, but not that bad. This time last year I was obese, and I ain't letting that happen again, (makes me feel rubbish and sluggish). Do you take the venlafaxine in the morning? Just wondered if it disrupts sleep if taken at night...

I take my venlafaxine at night-that was on the psychiatrist’s suggestion because I had quite bad side effects when I first started taking it, to allow me to sleep through the worst of it. These days it doesn’t seem to matter what time of day I take it, it does it’s job.
I was on 450mg at one point, then 375, and am now down to 300mg

I was about to comment on mirtazapine being bad for weight gain too. It's meant to be good with venlafaxine though. It's sometimes known as California rocket fuel.

Try pregabapentin much better no eating the house good luck
