Starting Citalopram?

Not been doing great these last few weeks, little things have gotten to be a chore, I waste days off and do stupid things constantly ie ham in the drawer! Not sleeping or sleeping for 12+ hours is also another annoying thing.

Dr has prescribed me citalopram but I don't want to take them, I've heard they make you feel worse before you feel better?

Anybody able to share some experiences?

I've been on Citalopram for almost 6 years now. I don't recall feeling worse before I started to feel better. I think after a week or so, when I first started taking them, I just gradually started to feel a bit better every day. Citalopram saved my life. Give them a go, sometimes it can take a few different antidepressants before you find the right one for you, everyone is different. Just a tip though - take them in the morning. If you take them at night they have a tendency to keep you awake!

I don’t think they make everyone feel worse first. I’m on week 3 (10mg) & the only side effect I’ve had is slight nausea. The last day or so I have felt slightly less anxious but probably the placebo effect at this early stage. Good luck x

I started on 10mg for first week, plan was to increase but did not need to. It is such a low dose but has saved my wellbeing.

They didn't make me feel worse at all. The only side effect I had was night sweats. It was a nuisance, but being able to function again was completely worth it.

I have just collected my first box of Citalopram I’m really nervous as on the front of the box in big letters it says ‘Caution your driving reactions may be impaired’!
My job involves driving and my gp knows that!
