Managed to lose ds1 (2 and 3/4) in Asda this afternoon for what seemed like forever. One second he was next to me, the next he was gone.

Rushed around looking for him, whilst pushing buggy with ds2. My friend, also with 2 children in tow also searched.

I asked at Customer Services and, although they put out a message about a lost little boy, they said that they don't tend to give out too much detail in case anyone wants to abscond with the child.....OMG.....

Eventually, my dear friend found him, clutching a box of eggs! When we were reunited, I held him sooooo tightly and disolved in tears in the middle of the store. I'm suffering PND as well so I feel even more wretched and guilty.

So, if you saw an hysterical woman in Asda this afternoon, it was probably me.

Won't be letting him out of my sight for a long time......

glad it turned out ok Mumnojumbo xx you now deserve a large glass of wine

misty · 22/10/2004 17:57

Oh mumbojumbo how awful for you but my guess is that we've all been there!

Lost ds1 in PCworld a while back - thought he was with dh and dh thought he was with me. 10 mins of pure heart-wrenching gut-churning hell so I know exactly how you felt today.... found him eventually - he'd gone out of the shop thinking we had, found him about 5 shopfronts along holding the hand of some woman Turns out he went into the next shop, and asked one of the assistants if she could 'help me find my mummy and daddy' and that's just what she did .

Don't beat yourself up about it, happens to us all .

mrsflowerpot · 22/10/2004 17:58

oh you poor poor thing, it's such a horrible experience. So glad you found him quickly. Lots of hugs for him tonight and a big glass of wine for you, I think.

I lost ds (age 3) at the local swimming pool, he had taken himself for a wee and locked himself in, I had literally turned around to pick up a teaspoon off the cafe counter and he was gone. I have never been so frightened in my whole life. Since it happened, though, everyone I know has a similar story, it's obviously something we all have to do at some point.

Things like this happen mumbo- don't beat yourself up about it. Horrible though it was he's safe and sound now. It does NOT make you a bad mother.

hercules · 22/10/2004 17:59

Err.... I've certainly been there and more than once.

hercules · 22/10/2004 17:59

You'll need a better claim to win that award i'm afraid.

Bagpuss30 · 22/10/2004 18:03

I've been there more than once too. Ds (now aged 4) has been going through a phase of running off for the last 6 months or so. If you ever see a woman screaming hysterically in a supermarket somewhere in Cheshire then that's probably me . Glad you are all OK though .

When we were young my brother (who was about 5 or 6) wandered outside the shop we were in. Two girls (aged 11 or so) found him there and took it upon themselves to take him to the police station - at least a 15 minute walk away! Obviously my mum went spare... I can't remember how long it was till they were reunited (prob when the girls turned up at the police station).
I know those girls must have thought they were doing the right thing but really! It wasn't a busy high street, just a side street in a residential area with one shop. Surely they should have thought that his mum might have been in the shop!!!
BTW, you're not a crap mother, just a mother of a 2 year old!!!

kkgirl · 22/10/2004 18:12

It happens, it is so easy to lose them in a split second, isn't it. I've lost all of mine at one time or another, and it is really scary. It doesn't mean you are a bad mum at all.

Hope you are ok now.
