Duty worker-any help?

Hello all,
Struggling with MH and been very distressed with severe OCD intrusive thoughts, was referred to community mental health team but still waiting for psych assessment. Called them other day to ask if theres any timescale for my appt but the two consultants were not there so had a message passed on. But I know that theres the option of calling the Duty Worker in the daytime if things get worse-but I dont really know what they're supposed to do-I dont particularly want to just have a chat about how bad things are. So does anyone have an experience of calling the duty worker? Do they help?

I imagine most CMHTs work in similar ways, in mine the duty worker is one of the care coordinators, they take it in turns. I find it very much depends on who is on duty when I call as to how helpful it is. In my experience they are there to listen, to help you work out if there’s anything you can do to help yourself in the moment, and to signpost to any other services (charities etc) that might help. In your situation, I would absolutely call, if only to nudge them again about when you will get your assessment - the message ought to be passed on. They should be able to offer you some support in the meantime. I’m sorry you’re struggling so much, hope things improve for you soon Flowers
