Hello, I don't know where is best to post this, so have done so under a few sections.
I'm 32, have had a great upbringing lots of friends and travelled alot. My issue is that I know I have been places/took part in activities but have no memories of them.
I have picture to look back on which will remind me I done certain things, but if it wasn't for them I probably would know as I couldn't tell you what happened, how we got there etc
This isn't just small things either, I'm talking about my wedding, a job I was in for 8 years I left 2.5years ago an I can't remember what I done, I have no childhood memories. My friends will talk about things we done and I can't remember anything.
What can I do to help myself? I now have 2 young kids and I want be rmember our life together.
I'm getting very down about it the more I think about it.
I hope someone has some advice.
Thanks

Hi, this is a bit of a strange one. Did you get any advice? Have you ever consulted a professional?

Are you forgetting whole events or just bits?

xtinak · 21/11/2020 00:46

I would say I am quite similar. I remember little of school. My friends talk about things I've got no recollection of whatsoever. I can't recall more than basic highlights of trips etc.

Have you always been like this? Do you take any medication? Have you ever told a doctor?

What are you like with recognising faces?
I think there's a link between a type of prospagnosia and lack of memory.

OP, forgive me, but I came back to this thread, saw there's no response and thought "ah, she probably forgot she posted". 😂 Funny, but not funny. Hoping you can get some help from your GP.

I think a professional assessment would help you, Ftil, if only to reassure you. You don't say if this memory loss is recent or if you have always been like it but you do sound down about it so please talk to your GP as a starting point. It would be interesting to know if others who are close to you have noticed this.

It may be nothing and may not last please worth checking out. Please come back and tell us how you are getting on and all the very best.

Sorry about the 'please' in my last paragraph, I meant to put 'worth'.

I'm like this, it takes a lot for me to remember things. I take lots of photos to remind myself.

I've just always assumed its something to do with my weird brain - I'm autistic and not great at recognising people which is interesting given the pp's comment. I've often wondered if I have ADHD too.

On the plus side I don't remember the bad or embarrassing stuff well either!
