I was prescribed it a few weeks ago as even though I was on flouxetine my physical symptoms of anxiety weren't under control. I only took 3 and I felt normal so I stopped taking it and I've been fine since then. No major side effects apart from a gassy stomach for a bit.

My husband has and still does, now on a very low maintenance dose though.

Is has suited him well and has helped by taking the edge off anxiety by calming the physical symptoms he got when anxious so it kind of helped to break a cycle.

Only negative is that if he forgets to take it one day, then he gets a bit of rebound tachycardia - faster heart rate & shakiness. Less so now that his maintenance dose is low.

This is interesting. Am also on propanolol up to 4 x / day.
I thought you jus take it when you need it and it doesn't build up in your body? @apples24 did yoir husband have a different experience to this.
I have been feeling very low mood. Has anyone experienced similar on this or perhaps one thing has nothing to do with the other?

Tamaralara · 21/11/2020 09:18

I have
My doc recommended beta blockers but id have preferred ad
Not sure if i can take both together
She told me to try these first for 3 weeks @Rollintodarkness

I take them to prevent panic attacks and they work really well. I can take up to three a day. I usually take one every couple of weeks.

Tamaralara · 21/11/2020 10:14

Do you just take one when you feel an attack coming on?

I have them, I got them for work as I was regularly having to present to large groups, ie over 200 people and I was basically getting stage fright then getting up there and embarrassing myself with nerves. These totally sorted the issue.

Obvs with Covid I don’t do that any more, but can do calls with large numbers of attendees.

I take one about an hour before a big event, it lasts about four or five hours. I don’t take them often, likely about once a month now and just one. I have in the past been to huge meetings that have lasted for two or three days and I’ve taken three a day for the duration. No negative impact. I think they are great.

Batman99 · 21/11/2020 13:57

They are really good to take away anxiety stick with them I recommend.

Rollintodarkness · 21/11/2020 14:29

@Tamaralara you can def take both together.
I'm taking for anxiety and was offered both but wanted to start with one so I know what works.

This week I'm feeling low. Not depressed I don't thibk, but really flat. I have no idea if it's the propanolol that has done this or just a coincidence.

Tamaralara · 21/11/2020 20:32

Thanks i am the same i feel emotionless and I don’t want to do anything besides put my dressing gown on & sit on the couch i know its not normal :(
I think the propanolol is good for when feeling anxious but i may ask for the others too
Im just scared to...@Rollintodarkness

@Tamaralara aww please don't feel scared. The GP won't give you anything that isn't safe and helpful to you. Be honest with your GP so they know your concerns and can monitor you more closely if that will help.

Tamaralara · 23/11/2020 20:07

Thanks
Im not sure wether to wait the 3 weeks on propanolol first before ringing back

Hi Bluntness100, did your GP prescribe it easily for that kind of purposes? I'm struggling with presentations and I'm thinking of asking for a prescription but I'm worried he may say just do some training on public speaking (which I may do when the pandemic is over)

Bluntness100 · 23/11/2020 21:44

To be honest, I burst into tears when telling her, she then suggested anti depressants and I was one hundred percent adamant I was not depressed, and stressed strongly it was a flight or fight instinct, like stage fright, it only happened when I was doing big presentations and it was going to kill my career. I was perfectly fine the rest of the time. I had to argue my point.

So she gave me these, told me she’d given one to her husband before he did a big interview and it worked for him.

Honestly worked a dream, to the extent I stood in front of 250 people and the main board, I work for a large global corporation you’ve heard of, everyone has, and was told I was a natural. No nerves, just killed the adrenaline rush that was causing it.

Thanks, that's exactly my case!
Bluntness100 · 23/11/2020 22:20

Just keep stressing it, call it stage fright, explain you’re completely happy the rest of the time, not remotely depressed and it can’t be trained because it’s a physical reaction and that it’s going to kill yout career if you can’t control the physical symptoms.

That you only need it rarely Ie say how many times a week you present and you won’t touch them the rest of the time,

For me this was all genuinely true. I don’t have general anxiety or depression, I just got bloody stage fright.
