Just picked up my prescription, does it matter when?

Fluoxetine should be taken in the morning. It will definitely not help you sleep!

MrsSugar · 10/11/2020 19:31

I take fluoxetine every morning as soon as I wake up. When I first started taking it I felt a bit alert and jittery so I thought taking it the morning was best rather than going to bed like that. After a few weeks it settled down and now I feel better on it. No side effects. Fluoxetine has genuinely changed my life.
Good luck 🙂 I think as long as you stick to roughly same time each day you can choose

I take mine in the morning with breakfast. At first I did take it in evening as that was when I first got my prescription, then fell asleep around four hours later Hmm had the same thing the next day too. Although since taking it more often I’ve been OK tiredness wise

Polkadotties · 10/11/2020 21:22

I took mine in the morning. However, for the first two weeks I took it at night as my doctor advised it can make people feel a bit sick and by taking it at night you slept through that symptom.

I take it in the evening. When I had a hospital stay last year they kept telling me I should take it in the morning due to the fact that it stops you sleeping but I take it when I brush my teeth before bed and it’s been fine. It’s helped a lot.

KatyMac · 10/11/2020 21:49

oh

not sure now...

Well I guess I'll try it and see

I take it last thing at night. I don't think much would stop me sleeping though to be honest Grin Although for gods sake don't lie down for 30 minutes after taking it, if it gets stuck in your throat it burns like hell and has made me throw up.

ginteaandponies · 10/11/2020 21:56

I take it at night time and have never had any issues.

FiorDiPanna · 10/11/2020 22:02

I take it before bed. Doesn’t affect my sleep at all. Plenty of water, though, as it does burn your throat if it gets caught.

Used to take it in the morning. Watch out for acid reflux! I had to have lansoprazole along with mine as it was horrendous!

AnnaMagnani · 10/11/2020 22:06

I found it didn't matter but I think I used to take it at night and kept it with my tooth brush as I was more likely to remember it - had a long phase of not remembering to take the damn things.

KatyMac · 11/11/2020 08:59

I took it last night and I slept really well

Possibly because I had actively done something to help myself

Thanks all

Does anyone take 10mg? I'm on 20 and I wonder if 10 might be better?

Weirdly it made me sleep better so I took it at night. Try both for a week and see how you go x

teaandcustardcreamsx · 29/11/2020 15:24

I used to take ten for the first week as per ‘baby’ dosage. Didnt find twenty that good and was on it for around ~6 ish weeks. Currently on 30mg and have found it OK so far

KatyMac · 29/11/2020 15:37

It has triggered brain fog and chronic fatigue which I am susceptible too

Is it reasonable (after making such a fuss to get them) to ask for a lower dose to try?

How long have you been taking it for?
KatyMac · 29/11/2020 15:48

About 3 weeks; it came on pretty quickly

I’m not on it anymore (it didn’t do anything for me) but it was recommended that 6 weeks was the minimum time to allow side effects to dissipate. I’d either stick it out for a few more weeks to slow your body time to adjust or speak to the gp if it’s really bad.
