Anyone want to set goals for getting through the next four weeks?

Obviously it may end up being more than that, but I think having a finite amount of time for my goals will help me get through it.

So I am setting myself some targets to focus on this time. I had to come off my meds so my focus isn’t great but I’m making a habit tracker for some daily stuff (including self care, a bit of decluttering etc) and particularly exercise as I got much fitter in the first lockdown but it’s actually declined again since, as has my mental health. I really want to use the next four weeks to focus on me, while also balancing everything else somehow.

Anyone else want to join me for some short term goals? :)

Yes. I’ve been on such a downward spiral since losing my job. Literally all I do is eat and stare at my phone. I’m also undergoing a possible ADHD diagnosis which I’m hoping will give me a starting point to get myself more organised and focused which is a massive challenge for me.
Even small tiny goals will be huge for me right now.

Ive just posted in another similar post, I’ll copy it here as I’m basically doing all these things for my mental health.

Here we are OP, here’s my list.

Having a month long lockdown is a good timer for all of this but it won’t directly affect me as work and university will carry on regardless for me, so no extra time at home.

I’m 50, doing a degree, working, life is shite.

Goal 1 : to get to grips with uni website and really know what is where. Go to the library, start to feel comfortable there. Sort out working environment ie desk, computer, pens, paper etc. Know how to print at uni. Change passwords to something easier. Sort out webcam and microphone. Put notes in order, print out some powerpoints.

Goal 2 : lose weight, weigh myself every day and record it, join gym after lockdown, start yoga after lockdown, yoga with Adrienne every day, C25K in sitting room for now, outside when I’m more confident.

Goal 3 : do menus, eat properly, drink lots, record all of this, plan shopping instead of wandering round aimlessly, batch cook and freeze.

Goal 4 : sort out house. This is a massive job as I’m a hoarder. I’ve been quite good in the sense I’ve been incredibly cautious about what comes into the house for a few years but nothing ever leaves. That is going to change. Also, need to paint kitchen, hall, landing, stairs and my room.

Goal 5 : get a haircut. I haven’t had one by a hairdresser for about 10 years and it feels heavenly when they do it. Get rid of blackheads on nose. Floss every day. Try to see dentist (!!!!!).

Goal 6 : sort out paperwork. Get cards working again. Apply for student finance. DD for rent. Gas, electric, phone - change providers. Student bank account.

A simple one for me - get outside every day. Even if just for a walk round the block for 20 min. It helps my mental health and my lungs, and I've been isolating over the past week so have really missed it. I will go out even if dark / raining but am lucky enough to work flex hours so more likely to be lunchtime

Welcome, thank you for joining!

Joe wow how are you feeling about the potential ADHD diagnosis? It seems awareness is really increasing now, which is great. I was diagnosed in November. Meds did help quite a bit - it became easier to get a bit organised, I was less impulsive about eating too. I found a clarity I’d never had! Unfortunately they did build up anxiety after a few months which is why I’m now off them, and I’m waiting to speak to my psychiatrist about trying a non-stimulant type (Elvanse is apparently much better for anxiety). So in the meantime I’m back medication free, but I do feel like I’m better for than before the meds as I gradually built up some better habits.

Blue that’s a fantastic list! Really clear goals. I definitely need to make mine more like that. What are you studying if you don’t mind saying? I would like to do a degree at some point in the next few years, I’m easing myself into studying very gently having just done a counselling skills course and I’m trying to decide what the right next step is.

That’s a good one lurking - it’s on my habit tracker. We are lucky to live right by a nice park (don’t drive so difficult to get elsewhere to exercise while avoiding public transport).

About to have dinner and catch up with strictly, then hopefully DD2 will go to sleep at a decent time so I can properly sort out my own targets and the targets we are setting as a family - trying to get into routine but we so often fail at this (I’m the only one diagnosed officially with ADHD but it’s definitely not just me who has it!) and again I’m hoping a 28 day target with an incentive at the end for actually keeping it up will help us all, especially while we don’t have all the evening clubs complicating stuff.

Hi all, some great suggestions/goals. Just don’t try to overdo it, small & steady wins without feeling overwhelmed.

I am taking it a day/week at a time, I find it’s much easier for me mentally when I don’t think “omg 4 weeks”

Since the first lockdown I’ve really focussed on exercise & my diet. It has helped so much to just get out every day & walk in the fresh air. I also do some at home cardio classes from YouTube to keep me entertained.

I am furloughed so I have time which helps but it can also be quite lonely seeing no one all day. So using fitness helps me pass the day.

AdventCalender2 · 04/11/2020 18:52

I'll happily cheer you on and post some achievements.

Mixitupalot · 09/11/2020 22:11

Hi how is everyone doing?

SingToTheSky · 11/11/2020 18:21

Hi mix I’m... sort of OK? How are you?

Thanks advent hope you’re doing well.

I’ve mostly been focused on tiny goals so far. Set up my habit tracker and managed everything at first but then DH had a hospital procedure and has been really out of sorts since so I’ve had a lot less time to work towards bigger goals and as a family we aren’t really in a routine yet. It’s embarrassing to still not be managing this stuff but at least the DCs have helped out a little more despite lack of visual chart.

I have signed up to my next course today but it really seems like that’s all I can manage and it’s so frustrating. I had a chat with my work coach today (I am getting a little help from a charity due to my autism) and she’s so lovely and encouraging but I still feel like I can’t do it 😣

Mine are very similar to yours Blue.

I want to lose weight. I seem to be constantly snacking.

I want to improve my knowledge of the curriculum. I work in a school.

I need to declutter. I am a bit of a hoarder. I have a terrible memory and find I keep lots of things just to remember past holidays and days out etc.

I want to eat more healthily. I've got into a habit of having ready meals every day.

I'd like to start saving again. My income has been reduced since March and I just gave up on saving.

Ingvermama · 12/11/2020 07:31

This is a great idea! I found the last lockdown very hard, my mental health suffered and I felt so sad all the time, I didn't make food for the family, or do cleaning, I just sat feeling bad. Luckily I have a good husband who did these things and I'm now on sertraline and have had CBT and counselling. I really don't want to slip down again so my goals are:
A knitting project
Yoga every day
A walk every day
I don't have too many goals but these are realistic and achievable for me at the moment.
