Anyone else out there who drinks too much?

Hi all,

I've found everything really difficult after terminating a much wanted pregnancy due to medical reasons - anencephaly, which my baby had no hope of surviving (although I still feel terribly guilty). Prior to the termination I have had a gorgeous ds & a beautiful dd, with 2 miscarrages in between. Without my ds & dd I don't think I'd have got through the rest.

I know that i am still using alcohol to ease the pain - not sure that it does - and wondered if there was anyone out there who would admit to the same ( or am i just an incurable alkie??)

Poor you. I have been known to drink a little too much from time to time over the years - for me it's a self esteem issue. It's never been a problem for me because I've been lucky enough to get through life without painful issues. I just posted because lots of people on here have had problems with drink, but it's very late and they've probably staggered off to bed, so I didn't want you thinking you were the only one.

poor you thats really sad have you received consilling?

Dear fortyplus

Thanks - think I probably started out with a self esteem issue before I lost my babies, but this was the proverbial final straw! You're right, it is late and will probably stagger off to bed myself!! But thanks for letting me know it's not just me.

Night night, then. Ask the question again tomorrow - things will probably seem better when you've got your ds and dd there to cheer you up. Do you have a dh to support you? You only mention the dcs.

Fortyplus - have dh who is snoring away in bed! DS (5) & DD (2) are wonderful, but might not think that at 6am - must go to bed!!!

Spooky - have tried counselling but sessions were finished as I got "better" - maybe I was to embarassed to confess all!!

I'm off to bed, too. Been at work today and had meeting that didn't finish till 10.20pm, so got home with head buzzing and reached for... the cocoa

My dh has been snoring for about 2 hours as well.

jamjac - there's quite a few threads on here - a dependent drinkers (I think they are aiming to give up altogether) and another I'm on for those of us who know we drink too much and are spurring each other on to cut down. Not sure if either is up your street, but you really are not alone.

I feel for you. I've recently had major upheaval in my life, enough to make me feel nonfunctional and a bit of a nutter. I'm sure it will pass and my life will return to its normal level if craziness. I have been drinking more than usual (every day at least a bit at night) but have just drunk a whole bottle of Pinot Grigio and wondered if I was on a slippery slope as well.

No real words of wisdom as I am there with you but you are not alone.

I do. And it's because of H.

Always had it in my personality, it's just that H has made it a different reason to continue .....

Thanks everyone - good to know I'm not the only one!

Am going to look for the other treads you mentioned sibble, ta. I'm sure you're not really a nutter banana - well, no more than the rest of us! - pinot grigio is nice, isn't it.

2sugars - sorry to hear about H. Do you need to talk about it? I've always liked alcohol & felt it's in my personality to, if pushed, get dependent on it. Begining to feel that I have been pushed enough.

jamjac, you can email me at [email protected]. Might be helpful to both of us ....
