Hormones

Has anyone been successfully treated for hormone imbalance that gives depressive symptoms and intrusive thoughts? For the past couple of years I have suffered with anxiety and depression, have had counselling and been on medication neither of which really worked. I've noticed over the past few months that some days of the month I feel pretty bright, motivated, loving and content. Then on other days I'm the total opposite, sad, tearful, anxious, negative, empty etc. I'm seeing a therapist who is really helping and today thinks it might be a plan to test my hormone levels to which will allow us to work out a treatment plan to help stabilise my mood. Just wondered if anyone has had a positive experience of this?

I have found the Cycle Diet to be really helpful.

@vizlsapup thank you, did you buy the book or sign up to one of their programmes? How long after following it did you notice a difference?

Is it linked to your periods? I have PMDD and my depression/anxiety is very much linked to where I am in my cycle.

That's not been officially diagnosed but the tracking of my moods and symptoms over the past few months suggests so

I would suggest cutting out all sugar for a month to see if that helps.
Making sure you are getting enough vitamins and minerals too. (Including vitamin D with K2, magnesium and potassium).
If cutting sugar helps, which it's very likely to, you could slowly reduce other carbs, starting with processed ones.
Read up on 16:8 too. Lots of people on those threads report improved moods and improved PCOS.

The symptoms you all mentioning are super common with hormone imbalance, in fact 50% of all women with hormone imbalance are misdiagnosed with depression. I'm currently trying to work out ways to help women with hormone imbalance and related conditions such as PCOS and thyroid disorder and would love it if you could help by filling in this short survey? Thank you again and I really hope you've got your hormone levels checked by now!
