Has anyone been diagnosed with this, or have a friend or family member with it? My dd has just been diagnosed after many years of mental health problems, and I want to know what I can do to help her.

Ive not heard of this. I have borderline personality disorder and my anxiety and temper sometimes get the better of me, i take ADs and it controls it well. Most people dont even know thetes amything 'wrong'with me

Thank you for answering . My dd was originally diagnosed as having borderline personality disorder and bi- polar. But a new therapist has now said it's sub personality disorder, I'd never heard of this. She's not on any medication and has been offered emdr.

That's not a diagnosis in the DSM. What kind of therapist is this? There is a concept known as subpersonality, but it's not a disorder.

Is it possible they meant ‘subclinical’, meaning your DD has Some of the symptoms of a personality disorder but doesn’t meet full criteria? .. if they are offering EMDR then it’s most likely for trauma work.

I have not heard of this and I am a MH professional. I wonder if they mean that she has some traits - i.e. meets some of the criteria for a personality disorder but not enough to warrant that diagnosis. Or perhaps they mean personality disorder not otherwise specified (PDNOS). As a PP said, EMDR is usually a treatment for trauma. It is worth saying that there is quite a lot in common between PTSD and personality disorders. I hope she finds the EMDR helpful.

She does have ptsd as well, perhaps I should have mentioned thatBlush
He's a private psychologist. The treatment my dd has been having on the nhs was shocking , so we decided to go private. This clinic was recommended by our gp.

Subclinical
Traits but not meeting full diagnostic criteria

gypsywater · 30/09/2020 20:50

Psychologists dont and shouldn't diagnose
Only psychiatrists can diagnose
This person may not be very credible or professional
