Would you disclose your MH issues on a job application?

Didn’t know whether to put this here or in work section.
The role I am applying for is to support students with MH. I have suffered with depression and anxiety for 10 years. Would you include this? I do feel like it helps having experienced it myself. The role also involves training to use CBT, which I have also received myself.
Opinions please x

Depending on the company, you may need to disclose it on the health questionnaire at induction anyway.

I've always been honest with new employers about my MH, saying something like "Its controlled by xyz but I do have a history of abc". Full disclosure is a requirement in my job though.

Not on an application but I did disclose it at interview and he told me later that it did make him hesitate but I came across well and he decided to give it a go and hired me anyway. Honestly my management team couldn't be more supportive, I got lucky.

You might want to refer to having 'lived experience' of mental health. I wouldn't normally suggest it, but for a role like this they often favour candidates who have a personal understanding of living with a mental health condition

No. Too risky.

I did when I applied for a mental health support worker job in the psychiatric intensive care unit at my local hospital and I was offered the job

Thanks all. I like the ‘lived experience’ suggestion. It does say they would encourage people who have supported someone else with mental health difficulties. You would think that as it is for a mental health related post they wouldn’t discriminate, but you just never know do you?

Would you be able to explain how you have been able to get ahead of the anxiety and depression so that you would be able to cope with the hours the job requires and you have self care strategies to spot and minimise episodes?
