Hi everyone. I'm quite new here and have only posted a handful of times, over on the TTC boards. For TTC purposes (although my question here isn't related to TTC) I'm taking a preconception multivitamin, along with Vit D, CoQ10 and omega 3. I've only just started these so not sure if they'll be having any kind of impact yet.
(TL;DR - any success stories about taking supplements such as magnesium for mental health?)
I've always suffered from anxiety and have spells of depression, and I've been doing a bit of reading this afternoon about the possible benefits of magnesium, as I'm tired of feeling so fatigued and lethargic and brain foggy.
I have some magnesium supplements at home already (never took them consistently though) and took one yesterday in a desperate attempt to deal with a huge muscle twitch in my leg - which it did, promptly, and that got me wondering if maybe I'm deficient, or at least low in magnesium. I also have coeliac disease which was undiagnosed until this past November, so I'd be even more susceptible.
So I was just wondering - has anyone here ever felt the benefits of magnesium for mental health, or any other supplement for that matter?
For background on my MH - I'm not great at exercising but I'm trying to go for walks more often and I've recently taken up rollerskating which I love and try to do a couple of times a week. I've tried many times to get into yoga and I'm still working on that, but I find it a bit boring so it's hard to get motivated to do it. Ditto mindfulness/meditation. My diet is okay, could definitely be better but I have some lingering food issues from 20+ years of undiagnosed coeliac (I'm 25). Sleep is fine, I'm prone to oversleeping but trying super hard to be strict with myself about bedtimes/wake-up times and most of the time I manage it. Think that's covered the basics as I know most places will suggest these things as the main causes of iffy MH. They all need work of course but would be helpful if I could have a bit more energy to work on them!
Sorry this is a bit long, I tend to go on a bit. Any advice much appreciated.
