Question about antidepressants

Do they actually numb your emotions completely? Apparently this can be a side effect of them.

An actual symptom of my depression is that I feel numb disconnected and detached from my life. So are antidepressants actually going to do anything?

They can. It takes a while to get used to them sometimes. But they shouldn't numb your feelings, just help you to deal with the real lows better. ADs are a lifesaver in many cases.

@Heartlake

Thanks for replying. I suppose their effectiveness varies hugely on different factors. Hoping they help

They have had an emotional numbing effect on me. I think the term doctors use is "emotional blunting". What are you taking?

My DH took Sertraline at first and he felt is was indeed quite numbing. Swapped to citalopram and then upped the dose... He's been much more stable and felt 'normal' on that.

I tried citoploram in the past and reacted badly to it :(
