Skin picking disorder

Morning ladies,
Has anyone successfully limited their symptoms without CBT?
I can sometimes manage 5 days without picking but lately every 3 days I'm making a mess of my face and can't seem to stop.
Wondering if anyone can share any useful tips? Also any healing remedies other than sudocream?
Thanks

Elastoplast wound healing ointment. Apply and cover it with a plaster. Heals the sores more quickly. I do it on my scalp and have to wear my hair up so I can't get to them while they heal.

Relaxation techniques such as meditation and exercise help me, OP.

If you're using your nails, I found that having gel nail extensions massively helped me as they're blunt and you can't pick anything with them! They're an acquired taste, though, and can also be expensive.

Put an Elastoplast on the areas you pick and pick the Elastoplasts off instead.

Experiment with different fidget toys (I like those Tangle toys, magnetic sculptures and Blu-Tak) to find something else to do with your hands.

Wear jewellery and similar things to fiddle with to distract your hands.

Thanks very much for your replies. I definitely need the ointment and will get some gel nails done too as I think this will help.

I'm also going make up free as this means less time in the bathroom which is a danger zone for me, but I can't get rid of the mirror as DH needs it for shaving.

Glad I'm not the only one that does this to myself 😟

This is going to sound weird, bit it saved me years ago (I still have some scars on my face). Make a paste with oat flour or similar and warm water and put it on the back of your legs, on your arms, somewhere reachable. Let it dry, and when the urge to pick comes just scratch the paste off. It's super satisfying and keeps your hands busy for a while. Also if you can remove the mirror from your bathroom/bedroom and avoid skim care routines at night. Do them in the morning before you have to leave the house as this will encourage you to not pick whilst you are looking at yourself.
Obviously non of this helps with the real problem (anxiety) but it helps with damage control untill you get the monster a nice leash.
Good luck, OP. This too shall pass xxx
