How can I keep calm??

Hey guys, I'm totally new to mumsnet. I was just looking for a bit of advice and guidance on how I can stay calm and just be less irritated!

I've suffered from anxiety and depression for a very long time, and I have accepted that it is a long term thing and isn't going to go away. Recently I've had a lot of change in my life. I got back with an Ex partner, moved house, and have a new job. I am feeling a bit stressed out and feel like I'm starting to take it out on my friends and family.

Does anyone have any tips on how I can let go, relax, and maybe even turn a new leaf with this?

Thank you :)

I suffer bad mood swings I constantly listen to music which reflects my mood to keep my emotions under control. I also find if I constantly remain calm and in control and don't let myself react to small stresses I am able to maintain control.

I tried for years; literally years to manage my anxiety without professional help. However I realised they’re professionals for a reason. Go and see your Gp, I have had a year of cbt and am now on fluoxetine which has made the world of difference!

I recommend cutting down on caffeine and sugar, exercise, good sleep hygiene, yoga, CBT and mindful meditation. Also take a good multi vitamin and magnesium, B vitamins and D3.

Ahh, thank you for the replies. I have tried CBT before, maybe it is time to get back in there, and start again with it :)

You're all super helpful thank you

No problem, there's a great CBT course you can do online called Beating the Blues you can also contact Anxiety UK who do online therapy.

I hope you get the support you need @BethanyDeanna. There is a technique called Dropping Anchor that can be helpful for when emotions become overwhelming. It’s not CBT, it comes from an approach called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and is proven to be effective in anxiety and depression. I find it helpful for when CBT has not worked in the past. Google should bring it up but if not PM me Smile
