Citalopram, what's the best time of day to take it in your experience?

Today I have collected a prescription for citalopram. Lots of family issues and other stuff going on but I'm hoping this will help ease the amount of crying, shouting and snapping at every little thing I have been doing.
It says take day or night, with or without food. From your experience, if you have tried more than one way which is better? As it says it can cause nausea i was wondering if better on full stomach or empty, before bed etc? Any advice welcome.

It was best at nighttime for me, with a bit of milk. Taking it in the morning made me feel really odd and a bit disconnected for most of the day, but taking it in the evening not long before bed didn't for some reason. It can take about 8 weeks before you start feeling the benefits of taking it though (if I remember right!) so persevere with it for a while. If you're not feeling any better in a couple of months go back to the doctor, you could need the dose adjusted.

I hope you're alright, life might not be the best right now but it definitely does get better Thanks

Hi I'd suggest taking them early on in the day
I took mine on a night (tea timeish)they kept me awak all night, not good when you have work the following day 🙂

Take mine first thing in the morning, suits me better that way. But you might need to try and be prepared to switch - some just suit day and some night. It took 3 weeks to start to work, probably 6 weeks to be fully effective, but it has made such a difference to me.

Thanks for the advice. Just take one and see then, might go for it at night, I can't get less sleep than I am. Lots of issues with my daughter and her behaviour with no respite from it is making every little thing seem like a mountain to overcome. I feel like I have pre-exam nerves 24/7, my stomach is in knots. Hopefully this will help me so I'm more able to help her before we get into a hole we can't get out of.

I am usually in from work and school run (old times!) about 4pm ish so I take it then. Too close to bed and I won't sleep but too early and I am foggy.

First thing in a morning. GP told me they were most effective a few hours after taking them
It took about three months and several increases of dose 10mg to 20mg to 40mg to work.

My GP told me to absolutely not take them at night. I took them every morning and they took about 6 weeks to work.

Beginning SSRIs can be really difficult but they're worth it in the end. I was on them for a year before coming off them.
