CPTSD therapists

Does anyone have any recommendations? The last private therapist I saw gave up on me and NHS support is very lacking in my area when it comes to CPTSD and has diagnosed me with GAD instead. Keep having emotional flashbacks and it's getting to the point I can't cope again. I don't have much in the way of funds but willing to go private if I can. Reading through Pete Walker's book again for the first time in a long time. At this point I've pretty much given up any hope of proper mental health support, but I'm in the darkness again and this is my last ditch attempt before I give up on therapy completely.

What area do you live in, Help.

HelpMH · 12/06/2020 02:27

Midlands, there isn't anyone who specifically deals with CPTSD. Happy to do online sessions and actually that would probably be more comfortable for me because I have panic attacks a lot when I leave the house. I have a veru supportive partner but there's only so much of this he can deal with and it's been ongoing for years now as I haven't found the right support and every time it fails, I feel like a failure.

Bessel Van Der Kolk’s “the body keeps the score” is excellent and he recommends EMDR

I can't get EMDR on the NHS, they don't class me as severe enough to require it because on the surface I'm coping (I have the book, I specifically asked for it as a result and was refused) I had EMDR therapy almost a decade ago now and it worked. My trust issues with therapists have got a lot worse since due to repeated shit experiences and therapy always being time limited, which is why I went private and ended up trying EFT and some NLP which didn't work. The private therapists locally who do practice EMDR (over £100+ a session and it's needed regulary (sp?)) are out of my price range which is why I'm looking for alternatives.

Right now, I just want to give up completely. The only thing stopping me is the fact I don't want my kid to experience what I did as a kid with repeated parental suicide attempts. I want to stop the cycle, not continue it.
