Bipolar and manic: what to do?

DS is 19 and bipolar. He was on Quetiapine which was effective for about a year, and then became psychotic so was switched to Risperidone. Since he has changed meds, he has become manic a few times, so I contacted the MH team to say I didn't think it was the right dose, but DS has refused to have it increased. So they have effectively discharged him.

He is now manic again, as of last night. He went out for a walk in the middle of the night and has just come home. He is exhausting to be around as it's like he's being plugged into the mains.

How do you deal with someone when they are manic? I try to just go along with things when he is speaking, but I know that he does some pretty high risk things as well, that I have previously had to step in and resolve. But I don't think I can keep doing that.

Unfortunately the adult MH team have been pretty useless all told, one or two of them have been helpful, but they seem determined to take him at his word when he says he is ok (because of lockdown contact is made with him by a quick phone call).
