Anyone tried online therapy? Can't stand the job and the boss and need some coping mechanism

I am working from home but the lockdown has increased the worst instincts of my manager; he has always been a micromanager control freak, but has really been outdoing himself lately.

Has anyone tried online therapy / counselling?

Reasoning with the guy (it's almost always a guy, isn't it) is impossible.
I can't tell him to get lost and look for another job because, you know, lockdown.
I need the salary.

But I would also need some sort of coping mechanism to keep my sanity!

How do you find a therapist / counsellor, other than by looking them up online? The British Psychological Society has a list of members but there doesn't seem to be a way to search by area of specialisation.

PS Of course in the current covid crisis everything must be put into context; I am fully aware that I am incredibly privileged at still having a job; this is not one of those "pity me" posts, just in case there was any doubt.

The BACP website has filtering for specialisms www.bacp.co.uk/search/Therapists

I'm doing a course of cbt using online modules and a weekly 10-15 minute phone call to check in and get some direction. It is through the self referral NHS service in my area. Maybe there is something similar in your area?
I'm two weeks in and I think I actually prefer it to the time I did cbt in person. All the resources and activities are on the Web portal which I can access on my computer or phone so it's easier than carrying all the printed worksheets and I can look back at the theory when I want too.

That's interesting, thanks. Are you doing it for stress or work related issues? I thought CBT was more for anxiety and depression than for work stress but I had never looked into it - I will.

I'm doing it to help me manage my mental health in pregnancy. I'm bipolar and the extra fatigue and other symptoms were starting to make my mood go low. I was assessed prior to the lockdown but it is now helping me manage the stress of lock down /work too.
CBT basically looks at how our feelings and actions are linked so can be used in a wide range of situations. I did my first course of CBT I 2012/13 and have used the skills since then in a variety of situations - if your thoughts and actions are modified slightly it can stop triggering situations like work stresses spiralling and then they are more manageable to handle.

The counselling directory is a good way of finding a counsellor and you can search on it by area.
