I know a lot of posters have shared their experiences of antidepressants such as citalopram and others but has anyone been on paroxetine? I've been taking them now for the last couple of years and just wonderd what others experiences of them are? Are they not prescribed much in uk?

I was on them, the reason they are not prescribed much is because they are very addictive however out of all the antidepressants I tried they worked best for me especially with my anxiety.

Hi OP

I have been on Paroxetine 20mg
For about 20 years!
I have tried to reduce and withdraw completely but I have never managed it due to horrendous side effects.
Recently I have increased it 30mg due panic over the coronavirus, I tend to suffer from health anxiety.

Dnt get me wrong it has helped me over the years but it's just so hard to withdraw from it

Husband was on Paroxitine when we first got together. Took a few attempts to get off them, to do it successfully took nearly 2 years. Went from 7 pills a week to 6, then 5 then 4 and so forth, with 2 to 3 months between each drop.

He has sworn never to go back on to them and thankfully hasn't needed anything since.

I was on them for a few months but ended up coming off them due to escalating suicidal thoughts. Other than that I didn't have any side effects though.

It's not used so much now. Prozac isn't as popular either.

They seem to be the only antidepressant that has worked for me.just worry that coming of them will be a nightmare.

I was on it for 3 years, only thing that worked.

I reduced very very slowly over the course of months and when I was down to the last 10 mls I asked for the liquid form and reduced it VERY slowly.

Iirc the process took well 6 months of not longer. That was 20 years ago and not been on it since.

@happyandsingle do you feel that one day you may come off antidepressants? If you don't think you will come off I wouldn't worry so much about it that's my personal opinion.

PaperDreamsHoney · 13/04/2020 13:51

Been on it for 18 years, not expecting to ever come off but quite happy that way. Have tried coming off a few times but also had dreadful withdrawal effects.

I'm just worried about weight gain and it has made me quite numb- for example even if I feel sad about something physically I just cannot cry- in a normal situation I would of had a good cry about something just to let it out but now even if I feel I want to cry about something physically the tears just won't come.

I'd say it's not working for you then. They aren't supposed to make you feel numb like that.
