I can't verbalise my feelings

Ever since I was a kid I've always had problems speaking up or addressing issues. The biggest issue is when it comes to my marriage, if my husband does something I don't like or don't agree with I cannot for the life of me tell him face to face. I always have to talk via text, even if we're in the house together. If he tries to pry it from me in person then I crumble, get upset and quiet and just shut down.

Does anyone else have this problem? How can I combat it?

I used to be the same way. It's learned behaviour - modelled on my mum's way of not dealing with things, and the disapproval or denial of any feelings I expressed. If I said "Mum I'm sad" I'd get "Don't be silly, no you're not."

The only thing that's going to help with this, is practice. Once you've done it a few times and the other person hasn't withdrawn their love as a result, it will become easier.

Yes, I think my problem comes from my mum as it's exactly the same way she deals with things and I also had my feelings or thoughts
dismissed as a kid by family.
