Since being sent home from work nearly two weeks ago I have hardly been able to sleep, getting 3-4.5 hours if lucky (I would settle for the latter). Last night got none at all and feel hurrendous today, anxiety through the roof and suicidal thoughts. I have had these problems before but now we don't know when things are just going to return to normal I just feel worried and desperate. Would feel so much better if could get some sleep. I have some zoplicone but can't predict the nights where my toddler will wake up so unsure of taking them. Any advice? I follow sleep hygiene and have tried natural remedies which don't really woke, as well as sleep meditation. I've been reading about melatonin, does it work?

Not so much anxious and stressed, (it’s manifesting as a grocery shopping obsession) but cannot sleep for toffee.

I’ve just been thinking how to tackle it myself.

I take prescription amitryptiline for pain, which normally knocks me out, but not currently.

I’m going to dig out the melatonin that I know is somewhere in the house. (Different mechanism of action completely). Failing that, I might try a drowsy anti-histamine.

Either of those two might help you over the hump? They still allow you to wake up properly if woken IYSWIM but they might help get your sleep routine back in track.

Sorry I garbled that. I meant I’m more stressed (racing thoughts) THAN anxious, but otherwise feeling similar.

Sorry, making a right hash of this. Just saw you actually mentioned melatonin at the very end of your post.

Yes it works, in a gentle way, but not for prolonged periods. It just feels like natural sleepiness. But there’s a very false finite window of action - if you take it too long before you are actually in bed, you sort of “the boat” and the drowsy feeling passed. HTH.

Very DEFINITE window of action (NOT false finite).

That’s it - I’m retiring from typing for a few hours Grin Can’t seem to make any sense!
