Will run out of Propranolol.... what shall I do to tide me over?

My repeat prescription of propranolol won’t be available till the 17th April. So I’ll have to use them very sparingly till then. I normally only need one a day but I am allowed to take 3 and recently that’s what I’ve needed.

Due to the pressures on the NHS the prescriptions are taking longer than usual to process.

Any ideas on how to reduce adrenaline in other ways???

Deep breathing, mindfulness etc really doesn’t work for me.

Can you explain to gp and get an emergency script put through?

Knobblybobbly · 28/03/2020 06:23

Maybe. I’ll call on Monday.

If you collect a regular script from the same pharmacy they may lend you an emergency supply under the current circumstances. Pharmacists are permitted to give emergency supplies but not 3 weeks worth. You need to contact your GP to reiterate the importance of the situation. Can you email them?

Knobblybobbly · 28/03/2020 06:32

I’ll check out their website.

Doctor here is sending repeat prescriptions electronically to a pharmacy of my choice.
Phone your GP on Monday x

I have to do a 40 minute daily meditation for it to help - that is 10 mins wishing I could be doing something else, 10 minutes feeling fidgety, 10 mins trying to bring my mind back from stray thoughts and 10 mins benefit.
But ignore this if you've tried it.
The other thing is a walk of at least an hour.
You might not be in a position to do these.

Burn it off. Any vigorous exercise will help as long as you get your heart rate up. Sleep with soothing music on.

Got away with taking just one today! Woohoo! Could just about make it if I can go one or two days without any.

If I'm having a really bad time with anxiety I take Nytol in the evening (not the herbal one). You can by it over the counter. It knocks me out, and at least I can have a good sleep to escape from the anxiety.

I've also downloaded an app by a guy called Glen Howard. He does guided meditations and they are amazing.

naughtycat · 28/03/2020 23:49

Whoops, Glenn Harrold. The app is called 'relax and sleep well'. But you can use it anytime, not just for sleep.

I'm the same. I haven't needed a propanalol in a long time. I managed to get my repeat yesterday. What helped me was a brisk walk to get rid of the stress hormones. It also showed me that apart from the shops being shut that the world is actually quite normal out there (in my neighbourhood) which lessened my anxiety quite a lot.

Knobblybobbly · 29/03/2020 00:04

Might try a little run on the spot.

Hide the Corona topic. If you feel you need information then get it from somewhere like the NHS website. Other people’s anxiety b isn’t good for you.

Northernsoullover · 29/03/2020 07:12

@Knobblybobbly you could try an online exercise class look at YouTube for dance fitness workouts. I have been doing these and it does stop the brain noise.
