ADHD in adult females?

Passthewinebottle · 27/02/2020 16:37

Having stumbled across an email which mentioned why many women with ADHD go undiagnosed, I did a bit of research, which lead me to do a couple of quizzes.

I scored pretty high on both, and most of what I am reading is me alllll day long.

What do I do? Contact the GP? Is there effective treatment? I'm welling up here with relief that I might not just be a fucking useless excuse for a wife & mother...

My sister was an adult when she was diagnosed with ADHD. She was diagnosed by a psychiatrist (she was seeing a psychiatrist for a completely different reason.) It wasn't a shock to us when we found out she had ADHD. Pretty sure she had CBT to try and help and medication. You can definitely see your GP to discuss your worries and ask to be referred to specialist who can diagnose ADHD.

You'll need to see your GP and ask for a referral. Be prepared to wait a few months!

I have self referred, which you can do in our area. I'm awaiting an appointment with a counsellor. You just know don't you? It was so completely obvious to me that I have it. X

I went to the GP first and waited about a year before seeing a psychiatrist. She only saw me once on the basis of a questionnaire confirmed the diagnosis.

She did offer the option for medication. But I was pregnant back then. So I declined it. Only knowing it for sure has already helped. But started considering if I shall take medication now.

Good luck op!

I was basically told today that I can’t possibly have ADHD because I have a job and my life isn’t chaos. It fucking is chaos and I bloody do have it!

Grrrrrr. Sorry Blush
