Anxiety- does it get worse??

Hi all, please be kind as I'm pretty new to this.
So recently I have started to feel anxious in certain situations.

For example if dh is driving and he stops, brakes etc I find myself jumping, griping onto the side of the door etc.

Locking the front door, I have to check then take a photo. We now have a ring door bell which helps.

If I'm walking over a bridge, I have visions for falling over the edge, even though I'm no where near it.

When my kids are in a shopping centre, I freak if they get to close to the railings. I literally have to grip their hands tight.

Driving over a bridge, same as I have when walking over a bridge.

I'm worried it's going to get worse. I have no idea how this has started but it's really starting to worry me. Is it normal??

Dh things I need to meditate, do head space or something.

Hi OP
It might be worth doing some CBT which can help with anxious thoughts. This will help you develop coping strategies too to stop it getting worse.
Unfortunately the waiting lists on the nhs can be v long but there are lots of books on it too.
Meditation/ relaxation exercises etc all a good idea too.

My borough offers online CBT with no waiting lists which I did and was very helpful

I did the CBT offered by the NHS (you can access it without a GP referral) link here www.nhs.uk/conditions/cognitive-behavioural-therapy-cbt/

I thought it was very good - the therapists were really kind and empathic and it was nice to be able to discuss problems with people paid to listen rather than worrying about annoying my family and friends. There won't be miracles and you have to put in the work but it is absolutely worth trying.

Learning mindfulness meditation can be very helpful and is definitely worth trying.

Exercise did the most good for me. I'd had a severe bout of anxiety which I'd mostly recovered from and started exercising quite seriously for other reasons. I was astonished by how much easier it became to manage anxiety after that - I'm sure that's the reason I haven't had anything like a severe episode since.

The main thing is to try everything with an open mind, give it a good go and work out what's best for you. It might take time to get that right but there WILL be a combination of therapies that works.

Thanks everyone.

I'm going to look up CBT. I already do quite a lot of exercise and that really helps.

Im defo going to look at some meditation apps as well. I really want to nip this in the bud.
