I'm ok by the way, I don't have intent.

But I wondered what happens when you tell your GP you have thoughts of Suicide or have plans? (without intent).

Looking for peoples experiences of this

Thanks.

In my case they have asked if I have means to do it, protective facts like children (they have asked how they would feel), what support I have at home. They a doing risk analysis and act accordingly. I have been offered crisis team (which I didn't want), once I was sent to mental hospital, other time I was told to go to a&e to see crisis team.

OP well done on taking your first tablet. I understand what a big deal that is. I was really anti tablets, but I realised I needed to take them to help me cope. So glad you had a brilliant GP

Hello @BlackCatFan, how are you doing today? Hope you are ok x

captainfleebag · 16/02/2020 15:06

You are asking for help. They won't refer or contact other agencies without your consent unless you pose an immediate risk to yourself or other's especially children.

Threads moved on... apologies.

Hope all works out OP.

Thanks

@LangClegsOpinionIsNoted I'm ok thank you. I'm not sure if it's a placebo effect but I actually feel better..! I slept through last night and didn't feel any anxiety when going to bed or waking up.. I feel like I've got a cold or am run down, and have a sore throat but otherwise I'm ok. I've started at a quarter of a tablet and plan to go up to half in a day or two.

As long as I assure them that I won't do anything, they don't take it seriously. I had a failed suicide attempt 10 years ago and was given the crisis number. It felt like a box ticking exercise. I am often disturbed by the persistence of my suicidal thoughts and feelings but when it comes down to it, feeling that I'd hurt my family even more means I wouldn't kill myself right now.

The GPs have generally not been great...the last few have been rushed and offered me medication when I have repeatedly explained why I won't be taking medication. Last time, the doctor insisted on prescribing a different kind of medication, and told me that they've run out of options for me if it doesn't work. I think empathy and kindness would been more effective.

I guess they're rushed and under pressure. I have often left the GP surgery feeling worse, more worthless and suicidal. Going to talk to a GP takes a lot of courage and I find it difficult because of my past experiences with them. So leaving without feeling supported or listened to makes me feel that I am an attention seeker, like my condition is not serious and that if it was, I don't deserve help.

Sorry, I'm not bashing GPs here. I've just had a bad experience but I know there are plenty of wonderful ones out there. Ultimately I suppose I blame myself for the way they are anyway. I guess I'm not in the best mindset to rationally look at my experiences.

I'm sorry. I've just seen LangClegsOpinionIsNoteds post. Sorry I only read the first post. I hope you're okay OP. Sorry to intrude with my story there and good luck with the medication Flowers

@BlackCatFan that's really good, well done! Have you thought any more about talking to your partner about it?
