Hi, i know there is many topic about this from the past. But i still want to ask all of you. Im 25 years old, married but still havent had child. Do you guys have eye floaters? I just started having them for about 1 month, i went to optician but he just said that its nothing to be worry. And what is shocked me is he tell me that these floaters that i see cant be gone. So its mean i will see this for the rest of my life??!!! the floaters that i see is so HORRIBLE , i avoid going out as i can see them if i am at outdoor. Floaters has drove me crazy for these days.
Yes the optician had said that eventually i will get used to them and ignore them. But for now it seem imposible. Please share me your experience, i just hope i can get used to them and dont feel anxious again every time i see them.

Yes, I've had floaters for more years than I can remember. You're optician is correct, you will start to ignore that at some point. Your brain will learn to 'filter' them out, so you stop seeing them. That is, unless you obsess over them. They're very, very rarely anything to worry about; your optician has said they're not a problem, so try and relax about it.

Twenty2 · 10/02/2020 15:51

(Yes, I used the wrong your/you're, due to editing my text. I'm gutted Grin)

melodysilvane · 10/02/2020 15:56

@Twenty2 they look like threads , sometimes look like a grey lines. I just cant understand how can i ignore them when they are exactly in front of my eyes. Im going to holiday with my husband on June this year, and all i can worry about is these horible floaters. I just hope that i can still enjoy my holiday. Me and my husband rarely go to holiday. Sorry for ny bad english, im not a english native speaker.

@Twenty2
When you first got them, you dont get annoyed by them? For now they are so annoying to me Envy

I have them badly, at first they really pissed me off, but now I literally don't notice them. Your brain just learns to kind of edit them out.

Twenty2 · 10/02/2020 16:07

Mine started so long ago that I can't remember if they annoyed me. I still get them, I have them right now, but honestly, unless I think about them, I just don't see them. Try and focus beyond the floaters. I promise, if you relax about them, you'll start to not see them, although it might take a little while. Have you heard that everyone has their nose within their vision, only the brain filters it out of your consciousness? It's like that!

Don't worry about your English, it's perfectly understandable Smile

Neverending2020 · 10/02/2020 23:26

I had them and really panicked. Now amn't even aware they are there!

Mumma1984 · 11/02/2020 11:26

I get these and much much more so when I'm anxious- I've had my eyes checked and an oct scan and all fine, the optician said the same as people here, your brain usually filters them out, he said he has 50-60 in each eye and never notices them until someone comes in complaining about theirs and then he said it's all he can see for a bit lol

If your anxiety over them lowers you will notice them less and less!

LimpidPools · 11/02/2020 11:32

Yes, I have them. No, I don't love them. But I got them at much the same age as you, and now hardly notice them, like other posters have said.

Apparently they're common in shortsighted people. Anyway, as far as I know there's nothing that can be done, so we just have to learn to live with them.

merryhouse · 11/02/2020 11:33

I've had them for as long as I can remember

I used to think of them as like the little bacterial cells you saw under a microscope Grin

You do eventually filter them out. You did the right thing mentioning that there was a change, and the optician investigated and decided it wasn't a problem.

BertieBotts · 11/02/2020 11:36

I have had then since I was a teenager. I only notice them if I look at a plain white wall or clear blue sky. I find them quite relaxing the way they drift about!

melodysilvane · 11/02/2020 13:31

I get so anxious everytime i see them, i still get panick attack if i see these damn floaters. i know there is nothing can be done to make them dissapear and i know i will have them for the rest of my life,i have accepted this fact.

I hate them, i really hate them but im okay with them if i can learn to ignore them or not notice/see them, if this make sense hahaha. Yes im shortisighted since i was maybe 12 or 13. For now, i just hope that i can learn to ignore them or not notice them. Thankyou all for the positive word , i have searched about floaters at the other website and all i can see is negative comment which only get me more anxious.

@BertieBotts wow you are a interesting person that you can say they are relaxing GrinGrin i dont think i ca ever find them relaxing

Can't remember not having them, wormy little buggers. They aren't fun, but you do learn to mostly filter them out, although they do occasionally jump into focus and I end up following them around til I get distracted with something else! Now I'm doing it on the computer screen. Sigh...

If your optician can't see a deeper problem, I'd try to stop worrying about them, the anxiety and irritation just makes you focus on them more. It's just general wear and tear, like getting wrinkles or grey hair. Just feels worse because you can't avoid looking at them! I did find that they were worse (or more distracting) when my eyes were particularly dry, so I have some of those saline drops to keep them moist. Doesn't make them go away, but keeps them at the same level as normal rather than being more noticeable and really irritating!

melodysilvane · 12/02/2020 09:34

@fpurplea couldnt agree more. Whenever im using my computer and when the floaters suddenly jump in, i alwasy end ep chasing the floaters Envy

i always end up , i mean

AuditAngel · 12/02/2020 09:38

At a recent optician’s appointment they asked me about mine, i remember having* them as a child. They asked if they were worse than normal? When i confirmed about the same (they come and go over time,) they told me not to worry about them

melodysilvane · 16/02/2020 16:18

Yes, i think i have to stop worrying about them. Today i have an outdoor activities, so im being under bright sun for all day, and the floaters are EXTREMELY annoying AngryAngryAngry i hate them, and its also make me feeling down ConfusedSad

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 16/02/2020 16:27

you have to filter them out, I have LOADS, they do seem to go through phases and I am not sure if that's because they get all rattled up or I just notice them more

Any sudden onset of new floaters, shadows or flashing lights should generally be checked out by your optometrist but mostly floaters are nothing sinister just aggravating

I also like watching them waft about ...trying to line them u with things or get a good description of them, mostly they are a bit fast, but you can get them sometimes!

I do have a particularly annoying BIG one atm that I keep catching and thinking something is whipping past me, left hand side, top outside corner or my vision but I am sure the novelty will wear off eventually.

melodysilvane · 17/02/2020 09:39

@LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow can you filter them out and not notice them?

OP posts:
LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 17/02/2020 22:40

yes...they are just there....maybe "filter" was the wrong word, I ignore them but I really see how they are aggravating.
You do have to just let it go!
I mostly spot mine against light colours/blue skies/screens

AvocadoAdvocate · 17/02/2020 22:48

I sympathise as I have them too, and have done all my adult life. I have one particularly large one that appeared about 5 years ago. The optician said it should break down over time and it has a bit. My brain has learned to ignore them mostly but bright days, white walls etc makes them obvious. Try not to stress about them - it's a pointless exercise.

PurpleFrames · 17/02/2020 22:59

I've had them since a child which is apparently uncommon? Source my optician!
I got used to them quickly and they rarely get worse, at first I hurt my eyes trying to look right at them (which is obviously impossible).

Miljea · 17/02/2020 23:11

Your brain will do the filtering. You don't need to work at it.

But possibly you need to find coping mechanisms so they don't trigger panic attacks!

One of mine is annoying because it looks like a hair; I see it in the pan when I'm stirring food on the hob! That still catches me out!

Babieseverywhere · 18/02/2020 04:29

Distraction is the only solution. Look past them and concentrate on the real world. YY, to avoiding bright plain skies if possible.

You are lucky that your floaters are just present with nothing more to worry about. It isn't the nicest feeling in the world but you will learn to cope with it.

Chin up and concentrate on the wonderful parts of your life. Things will look better.
