How to help DS

My DS is at uni, been home for the Christmas holidays, and as at every revision period prior to exams (or stressful time) has really struggled with severe anxiety and irrational thoughts. Mental health issues go back to early childhood with nothing diagnosed.
The problem I have is that after the exams are over his mood improves (never fully) and the talk of doctors, counselling or medication is dismissed. How can I persuade him to seek help? He really needs it. Anyone any experience of how his quality of life may be improved. Just want him to be happier.

I don't think there is much you can do, he has to want to help himself. My husband and my oldest son are both like this and both refuse help either counselling or pills, despite at times acknowledging they are struggling, like your son when things calm down they then are back to denying any issue!

icecreamsundae - thanks for the reply, I guess your right, just feel so helpless and it does get really extreme at times. At present he walks out at the mention of it. I know that there is probably no quick fix, but something might help his general mood. It's been going on for so many years, just wished the doctor had took it further in his younger days, he was always quick to say it wasn't severe enough.
