CBD Oil for Depression

Has anyone had any success with CBD oil or capsules?
DS has been asked by the GP to think about antidepressants but is totally against them. He has a responsible job and doesn't want to feel foggy, tired, numb etc
There's no persuading him at the moment so I was looking into alternatives to try and came across a few articles about the CBD oil. Most seemed positive.
TIA

There was a programme on tv recently
“Ask the doctor “. I think
If you’ve got on demand have a look
It was one of the 4 channels bbc1 itv(Granada) CH42 ch5 I’m sure

It was a dr that looked into cbd oil, had about 6 tested at a lab and showed you the outcome. It was very interesting and an insight!

I’d be thinking more into why he’s depressed and him trying to work on that. If he doesn’t fix that(if possible) then he will stay there

Have him try 5htp you can get from H&B Boots Superdrug

Thanks, he doesn't know why he's depressed, we are also looking into counselling.
I've not heard of 5htp, have you had success with it?

How old is dis, is he still at home?
There’s always a reason deep down, do you think he’d tell you ?
Work, workload, bullying, to much pressure
Sleep issues
Friends
Colleagues
Relationship
Do you think he would be open with counselling ? If he’s not truthful and open it won’t work.
Don’t go down nhs route, there on the floor!
Look at the BACP website for local counselling and read there page.

Depression is horrible, it’s something you have no control over. It creeps up on you before you know it.
Is he managing to eat and sleep?
As the gp tested his bloods thyroid b12 d3

I haven’t actually tried 5htp, I went straight on ad’s, which wasn’t an easy ride.
I been on them on/off since I was 23 now 62

Thanks for replying. Hes 22 and lives at home. Is eating, sleeps alot but has a busy job. He spoke with the GP for 30 mins but I don't know what he told her. If I had to guess I would say it stems back from his grandad dying and his girlfriend dumping him in the same week. That was 3 years ago. But I honestly don't know, he is still friends with the girl.
He hasn't had any bloods taken, I thought the GP would do that first.
I wouldn't use nhs counselling, there's a 6 month wait.
Thanks againFlowers

It's probably worth getting on the waiting list for NHS counselling, even if it is a long wait. If he is struggling because of something that happened 3 years ago, it's really unlikely to miraculously improve within 6 months. You will probably still be facing these problems so he might as well put his name down. If it comes around and he no longer needs it, surely there's no harm done? :)

The GP may also be able to recommend counselling that is partially subsidised and so cheaper than private therapy, that will be quicker than 6 months. My GP was able to recommend one that was £10 a session that I could start immediately. I ended up opting for private therapy for other reasons, but it was good to know the option was there.

Unfortunately mental health problems don't usually have a quick fix. You have to address the root causes. I take CBD myself, but I actually take it alongside prescribed antidepressants and I go to therapy as well. As a combination, all of this seems to help, but it's a slow journey. Just taking CBD alone is unlikely to help a lot.

Have you asked him why he is OK with CBD but not antidepressants? CBD also gave me headaches and fog at first - it probably will if you take a strong enough dose to actually have an effect. The CBD gummies etc have such a small dose they are really more of a gimmick. Just a thought.

Good luck.

Thanks for replying. I've decided I will pay for a private counseller who I've already emailed. I can't watch him suffer and wait 6 to 9 months.
He's slowly coming round to thinking about AD's but it's got to be his choice obviously.
I think he's just scared of the unknown and about side effects

I was in the same boat. My doctor prescribed pills, but when I took them I felt like after hangover. And having looked through several discussions on the topic, where people suggested trying CBD, I decided to do this. I should say, it really works. As for CBD oil, it is important to find a proper one that will help exatly your DS. In case he doesn't see much result after taking the first oil, I suggest trying another one. We all are different, so the effect can also be different. Also I like CBD gummies (there is a good review here). They taste great and have many flavors. The effect is the same, though CBD oil is cheaper. Hope it helps and good luck to you and your DS!
