Were there early symptoms like having vivid nightmares that freaked you out from sleeping, and having thoughts about your house burning down, being run over or bears eating you?

My dc loves repetitive behaviour (same games over and over again) and has these bad fears and nightmares that seem extreme compared to other dc.

Any thoughts welcome. She’s 5, and it’s hard to know what’s going on but wondered if any adult OCD sufferers had any childhood memories to share or advice.

that's a good point - we've got both in the genes in grandparents, siblings and nieces/nephews and my DD definitely has sensory issues too - it's a good point, and it'll be hard to say for sure until she gets to a certain level of verbal ability.

I did wonder about ASD too. I'm not sure that enjoying repetitive games fits with OCD- repetitive actions (compulsions) in OCD are usually in response to distressing thoughts.

However the checking of the candles could well be an OCD compulsion in response to the worry about the house burning down. At 5 though this could end up being a normal worry.

We're going down the ASD pathway anyway and re-assess for dyspraxia (DCD) when she's 7 (they said they can't diagnose til 7 for that), and they know about the family history on the OCD side so hopefully we'll get the right help at some point.
