Olanzapine experiences

My Psychiatrist today has mentioned olanzapine as a possible option for me to try as the current combination of medications I’m on (45mg mirtazapine and 300mg quetiapine) aren’t working in treating or helping my current severe depression. Just wondering if anyone has an experiences of this drug for similar conditions. I’m willing to try anything to relieve this current depression, Iv had it since April and have barely been functioning since. Also on the waiting list for Cbt but I need to be at a functioning level to be able to engage with therapy.

Olanzapine is really sedating. I wouldn't think it would help for depression. It makes me just a sedated zombi. Mirtzapine is also quite sedating, have you tried an activating antidepressant?

SSRI’s cause me to get very agitated combined with depression not a good combo. I was previously on duloxetine last year which worked until earlier this year when they stopped working and I couldn’t tolerate the higher dose.
Mirtazapine does help me sleep at night and the only medication that ever has done that consistently, I usually suffer insomnia otherwise. But they don’t knock me out like some people report and I feel okay the next day except for depression symptoms obviously.
As you mentioned they are 2 sedating medications and I’m worried about flat affect. I do wonder if a more activating antidepressant alongside an antipsychotic would work better than the mirtzapine combo.

DB takes olanzapine and an anti depressant together. With olanzapine alone he struggled with motivation and sociability. His communication improved so much adding the anti depressant. He has been on this combination for years. He has schizophrenia and no relapses.

It took a while to get the right antidepressant as the first one caused panic attacks.

Glad to hear they are working for your DB his had no relapses, that is great.
Mine isn’t for psychosis or delusions of any sort, just severe recurring depression, current combination not working. You don’t hear much of people taking it for depression or not voicing it if they do, so I was just keen to find out other people’s experiences of it, I don’t want to be left numb or like a zombie every day but also don’t want to be depressed and not functioning either, it’s a double edged sword.
