Coming off meds

I’ve decided I don’t feel any difference and tablets are a waste of time so I’m going to stop them. I’m currently on 375mg Venlafaxine and 500mg Quetiapine going to go cold turkey as of tomorrow

I wouldn't go cold turkey, OP, you might feel really weird for a few days. I tried coming off Sertaline cold turkey (as I felt it wasn't doing anything) and felt light-headed and whoozy for a week. It was scary.

Best to make a doctor's appointment to discuss. I changed to a different AD and it works brilliantly. Please take medical advice before doing anything.

I stopped one med couple of weeks ago but I am back to it because started to feel down again...

Cold turkey isn't a good idea. How long have you been on the meds?

granadagirl · 13/12/2019 18:27

Sorry but I bet you don’t get past day 2/3 it will be unbearable anxiety
But if you do, please come back and let us know, I’m on venlafaxine also 225mg

Funny I came across this I’m feeling the same Op about coming of medications. I take mirtazapine and quetiapine neither are helping my current depression. Cpn called me yesterday to say that the psychiatrist has said there is nothing more he can do medication wise for me that I have apparently tried all the medications I can Hmm so I’m thinking well what’s the point in keep taking the ones I’m on when they are having no effect whatso ever still very low and still not functioning, but I’m scared of stopping cold turkey although I don’t think I can feel any worse than I already currently do

N no nobody is saying not to come off the meds, like you say if you think there doing nothing and haven’t changed the way you feel in any way.
Then I’d probably do the same
But I’d never go cold turkey(probably was I’d be scared off the symptoms/feeling ) I’d do it slowly
But that’s me, we’re not all the same
And I can get the “get it over with quick routine”

Coming off them cold turkey greatly increases the chance of a relapse. Reduce the meds slowly over at least a few weeks. I speak from experience many times of reducing/stopping meds.

I wouldn’t advise cold turkey. I’m currently building up the quetiapine again after cold turkeying that and another AD. I find if I go without venlafaxine for a day I start feeling really, really physically ill. Stopping the quetiapine has meant I’ve felt exhausted all the time due to poor sleep, and physical pain from everything being so tense. 3 day long migraines. It isn’t pleasant, and 6 weeks later it wasn’t any better. Add suicidal thoughts into that and it’s not a good mix. You may not feel emotionally different on them but going cold turkey will be horrific physically. And going back on after coming off is pretty crap too. If you’re going to do it, do it very slowly and tell your healthcare people.
