Advice for coming off Quetiapine

Have been on quetiapine and sertraline for almost 2 years now, started them after having a baby,

Baby is turning 2 and I only now feel like I'm getting back on track, one thing that majorly helped was exercise,

At the beginning of going the gym it was for my mental health, but now I would like to see some results in the amount of time and effort I'm putting Into the gym.

Not losing weight and wondering if my medication is the cause? Have slowly started to come off quetiapine, and now have lost my motivation to go to the gym feel the anxiety creeping back in,

Don't know what to do? Trying to get my bmi down to hopefully try for baby number 2, any advise would be great?

Fell like I'm in a catch 22 situation?

Whatever you do, do it with medical supervision

Ditto to the pp, don’t try and come off yourself.
Depending on the reason you take quetiapine there are alternatives if you might need them still.
I use to take quetiapine and certainly weight gain is a common side effect. It made me crave carbs / sugar, like full on craving!

What dose quetiapine are you taking? Can you get a smaller dose of the slow release while you're tapering off?
I'm on 500mg daily, not looking forward to the day I come off them!

I took it for about a year. I was then desperate to come off it as I was better and the weight gain was getting me down. I did it with supervision. I reduced the dose gradually over a few months and in the end would use a pill splitter and took half and then quarter of a pill. It was absolutely fine and i think being patient and doing it like this you will not have any problems. Good luck op Smile

My partner took quetiapine for ~5 years and has recently come off completely after slowly tapering. He is super active and eats very healthily but has always had a bit of extra weight since starting it. Don't be frustrated with your progress - remember exercise has so many more benefits than just losing weight, you still can be fit and strong! It's always better to be happy than thin :)

He did find that he would crave food after taking it in the evenings, so would take it as close to falling asleep as possible to prevent himself going to the kitchen to get snacks.
