BUPA Question

Can anyone tell me whether BUPA treats anxiety and depression as acute or chronic conditions? In other words, if someone has had anxiety and/or depression in the past, before they joined BUPA, would future episodes of the same thing be considered a pre-existing condition (so not covered) or a new condition?

I think it would be covered if it was a "flare up" or had new or different symptoms. You would have to ask. They also have a limit of 3 years' total cover, no matter what.

No sorry - if anxiety and depression had been in the past before joining, BUPA will not cover as will be deemed pre-existing. The only way around this is with some BUPA policies negotiated by employers that basically don't have pre-existing conditions at all. This applies to all conditions, not just psychological.
Smallblanket - don't know what you mean by 3 years total cover comment - could you explain please?

On our policy, BUPA will fund 3 individual years of mh treatment for an individual. So if you need to claim for any mh treatment in one subscription year, that counts as one year. If you don't need any the following year, but do need it the next, that's the second year. After you have claimed in 3 separate years, they won't fund anything further.

I my policy you have to have been 'symptom free' for 2yrs for the condition to be covered again which includes no medication / dr appts. So I have a history of depression but it will be covered again as an acute flare up if I haven't been treated or medicated in the past two years.
In reality however my condition is chronic in that I haven't got a chance In hell of two years medication free as it is be medication that keeps my condition 'symptom free'

Ditto what vulluto says

I used to be with saga who I think uses axa insurance
They said exactly the same
2 years free
no gp appts regarding mh
No medication

I’ve stopped it now, as this is my only health complaint anxiety and take medication
