I can't live at home anymore but need help

I am 23 and have Aspergers and struggle with things. I live with my mum, who has OCD. Unfortunately, when she (often) has a flare up, my life is made miserable. I am called everything under the sun and have to listen to it all. Is there anything I can do (other than commit suicide)?

Do you have any other family members you can speak to?
Please don't commit suicide.

Contact your council for help to find somewhere to live, especially if you need support to live independently.

NorthEndGal · 25/11/2019 10:02

Yes, there are alternatives. Please dont do anything drastic.
Could you live with a roommate?

OneHundredThousand · 25/11/2019 10:04

Hi @NomDeQwerty - my Grandad, whom I was very close to recently passed away. He was the only person in my family that I felt I could speak to about things that worried me.

Can you visit your doctor? Your mother's OCD condition is having a bad effect on your mental health. You can ask the doctor to tell you if there are any organisations or services that can help you.

How about going to citizens advice bureau and talking to them about your housing needs?
So sorry to hear about your Grandad, he sounds wonderful Flowers

I have tried speaking to my doctor. He's prescribed me tablets that have helped how I feel, but they do nothing to stop the turbulence caused by my mum (when she is unwell). I spent quite a bit of time yesterday evening (and many more before that) at the local Crisis Cafe at my local Mind branch.

See your doctor - you may be entitled to sheltered housing

NomDeQwerty · 25/11/2019 10:08

Texting is easier for my son with ASD so I've posted a link if you feel you can't speak in person or on the phone.

At some point in the past you would have had contact of some kind with CYPS etc for your diagnosis and single plan for school, maybe they could direct you to adult help and support. It will be there you just need to find it.
You can sort this, it will be hard but try and think of the benefits having found good support it will urge you on.
Take care x

Hi OneHundredThousand,

We're sorry you're going through such a difficult time with your mum.

We hope you don't mind, but when these threads are flagged up to us we usually add a link to our Mental Health resources. There are lots of organisations listed which can provide support, for you and your mum. You can also go to the Samaritans website or email them on [email protected].

Support from other Mumsnetters is great and we really hope you'll be able to take some comfort from your fellow posters, but as other MNers will tell you, it's really a good idea to seek real life help and support as well.

We also like to remind everyone that, although we're awed daily by the astonishing support our members give each other through life's trickier twists and turns, we'd always caution anyone never to give more of themselves to another poster, emotionally or financially, than they can afford to spare.

We're going to move this thread to the Mental Health section shortly.

Sending good wishes, OP. Flowers
