citilopram and alcohol - is it a no no?

i suspect it is. I have just started on citilopram and have been taking the tablets just over a week. So far so good. Alcohol isn't a big deal to me, i have to say i was drinking rather a lot before i started the tablets, more through habit in the evenings than anything else. So hubby and i have given up, good for our waistlines.

The thing is though, i have just found a spare £100 in my bank account, a very rare event, and i figure that DP and i need a night out. I am planning on going to the new pizza resturant in the town, but pizza without chianti seems a bit dull.

Would one glass of wine be a no no? I would be sensible and only have a glass and not a bottle (im quite good at putting a whole bottle away on a night out!) or should i stick to a glass of water? Any thoughts??

just between you me and the gatepost LEM, I have been known to partake of the odd glass of wine, but I've been on my ad's for years and there is no way I could go that long without a drink!

There is a school of thought that says that you shouldn't drink as alcohol reduces the efficacy of the drug but I have found that as long as I am not regularly getting bladdered (which I don't do any more since dd!) then I don't have a problem.

I generally drink about a bottle a week, across the course of two or three evenings.

It may well be a case of try a little bit and see how you get on.

A glass or two of wine wouldn't be a no-no.

Drinking regularly whilst taking ads wouldn't be a good idea, partly because alcohol inhibits the effects of the ads and partly because alcohol is itself a depressant.

You might find, though, that the ads make you react differently to the alcohol - even if you can normally put away a whole bottle, you will probably find that one glass is more than enough to have you feeling squiffy!

thanks, i will see how i feel, i have a check up with the doctor next week so will ask her what she thinks. I may not take the risk though as i am still in the side effects stage (apparently) and i have already had a horrible panic attack, i dont fancy that in the middle of prezzo's
