Anxiety-physical symptoms

I have health anxiety and currently getting therapy for that and other things but sometimes the physical symptoms are scary and overwhelming. I constantly think there's something seriously wrong with me and it's taking its toll.
What are the physical symptoms you get when you are feeling really anxious?

@howdy31 I do, if I forget for whatever reason the symptoms rush back though. I don’t like being on it as I definitely feel ‘flat’ but it’s better than the alternative

I ended up with bad anxiety after months of doctors not being able to diagnose anything from constant symptoms I was having. They did blood tests and told me there was nothing wrong so I ended up on meds of anxiety and depression.
After months on meds, the anxiety improved but I was still getting the original symptoms but was told it was all down to anxiety.
I changed to a different GP who agreed there must be an underlying cause. She did different blood tests and it looks like I have an autoimmune condition. I'm seeing a rheumatologist in a couple of weeks.
I'm.so angry I was dismissed as an over anxious person! If I had been treated properly at first I wouldn't have got so anxious!

Try to keep an open mind, limensoda, until youve seen the rheumatologist - it's not uncommon for women to have some positive autoimmune blood tests that aren't really enough to account for their symptoms, and addressing the non-physical components such as anxiety (and living around hard-to-treat autoimmune conditions) remains important.

I know that, but my RA latex level was 117 and should be less than 14. My GP checked my records and discovered I had the same test 5 years ago and my level was 173. It was not followed up and I wasn't informed.
I had no anxiety back then and in that five years I've been to the doctor many times with symptoms that link to an autoimmune condition. Each time I've been told its just ageing. My anxiety started because my symptoms became much more severe and I wasn't given the right tests.

@Limensoda what are your symptoms you currently have or had? That's really interesting and also shocking nothing was followed up!

Burning/prickling in face
Constant dull headache.

Burning and stiffness in hands and feet.
Muscle aching and burning in lower legs, upper arms, upper back and lower back.
Joint pain in hands, elbows and one hip.
Dry eyes and nose and sinus discomfort.
Constant tiredness.

Just absolute panic.

Hear racing, no sleep for days, hot, can't eat, can barely swallow, can't hold a conversation, intensely irritable, crying, breaking down, shaking, inability to function, loose teeth, bleeding gums, loose bowels.

It's utter hell.

howdy31 · 11/10/2019 20:33

All these symptoms can be so overwhelming! Thanks

@Groundfloor are you getting any help for how you're feeling currently? Or taking any medication to ease the symptoms?

I get this very distinct smoky vision. I now know what it is but used to wonder if there was actually a fire close by. Tight chest, heart racing, upset stomach. I take propranolol, 40mg, and they really help. One and a half tablets usually helps me. It's shit.

howdy31 · 21/10/2019 20:17

Random Q, does anyone get the gagging feeling when they're really anxious? If so, how do you ease it? I don't gag but I feel it's gonna happen. I have a phobia of being sick so the thought of even gagging scares me

@Limensoda I've had a similar situation in a way - I have Health anxiety from being misdiagnosed before and everyone keeps telling me I have anxiety symptoms - saw the doc the other day and said look I feel it's more than that and she looked at me and said ... do you realize your thyroid is swollen?! She's now ordered a load of bloods - I'm really hoping this is a key to the cause of the symptoms so I don't feel too mad! Does my head it a bit, anxiety symptoms should be a diagnosis of exclusion not something they just jump to because you have a history of anxiety previously !

Once you have anxiety, doctors often dismiss other health fears. Some are quite patronising.
