It can be a sign of iron deficiency and also a symptom of the menopause. It’s horrible.

Not iron deficient well not on last blood test.

Menopause: hormone
Yer I thought of this too
Really didn’t want it to be that as there’s nothing I can do about it
It’s really bad where I can’t switch off from it. So sore nothing helps

Was really hoping someone would get it also on antidepressants
But not menopausal ????

Hopefully someone will come along. Chewing gum helps but not too much sugar free gum as it acts as a laxative. Took a while to figure that one out!

Could it be anxiety related? I have had issues with a sore tongue that have correlated with my anxiety symptoms peaking. My theory is that its connected to having a dry mouth and holding tension in my jaw. My tongue felt sore, dry and tight.

But did it go????
I’ve had mine now 2/3 years ☹️☹️☹️☹️

I agree....I had exactly the same. Dry mouth and tongue before I took meds and worse when I started them. I also had tense jaw and clenched it constantly with anxiety.

So I actually just saw a GP for my sore/dry tongue. My anxiety is better and I've fought off a virus but the tongue issue was still there. He's actually prescribed fungal drops as he said its probably a fungal infection. I never would have guessed that so it be worth a check up.

Blackcat
Is this a recent bout your talking about?
If so please let me know how you get on with the fungal drops

I’ve been gp, got spray for dry mouth
Also been to oral consultant, who suggested anxiety, don’t know if that because I’d mentioned I suffer bad anxiety though! Suggested Nortriptyline. Didn’t want another antidepressant that my not off even worked.
Gp again. Now on dry mouth lozenges
Also been sent to dental hospital via dentist, again anxiety! She did have me get some bloods done vit d b12
I take d3 and B50 everyday
and only antidepressant Nortriptyline or amitriptyline may help, but seeing as I was on one, she didn’t seem very keen to recommend I take it, that was before I was going to say no.
Due back dental hospital Nov, but can’t see it coming to anything
I also have a night mouth guard, but I still have aching teeth,
and sore jaw/neck when turning my head.

Menopause- hormones depleted
I don’t know as I’m
(well post about 7/8 years)
Anxiety- yer I have that, I take venlafaxine & 2mg diazepam

The mouth issues started on my last bad bout of anxiety that turned to bad depression and a change of meds plus peri menopause(looking back now)
Since then I’ve suffered with dry mouth/tongue, but last maybe 3/4 years also teeth aching(clenching, but really not aware) and surely dentist would know by my teeth wearing down? But still pushed me to buy mouth guard £100.

Well I got so sick of my dry mouth /sore tongue yesterday I saw the GP so very recent. Its been bad for about 6 weeks and mine also started with a flare up of bad anxiety and a cold/virus of some sort to so I was feeling really run down. He initially looked at me like I was mad when I said I had a sore tongue but then advised that fungal infection should always be ruled out first. The drops seem to be helping and must be fairly gentle as they are used for newborn thrush to. It might be worth considering. My whole mouth and throat feels happier and I actually slept better to.
