DH needs counselling

DH is out of work at the moment, so losing self-confidence. This is also bringing up loads of feelings and emotions about his childhood etc.
He needs and wants some therapy, but how do you find the right person. What qualifications or accreditations should he/we look out for?
At some point we are also very likely to need couples counselling - should we look for someone different for that?
Advice appreciated, there is a family member qualified but that is a definate no for counselling and would prefer not to ask them for recommendations either as just too close to home.
Thanks - name changed as others know my normal name.

I would recommend giving MIND a call. They don't just offer low cost counselling (which is great but there tends to be a bit of a waiting list), but also hold details of local accredited counsellors they can direct you to. Most counsellors then offer an introductory session, where they tell you more about the way they work, and you can tell them what you hope to get from the sessions. You will then have a good idea if you're going to 'click' with them, or not.

We are also a bit spoilt for choice as there are 40 local counsellors!
