Feel nervous all the time about nothing. Is this anxiety?

I have butterflies in my stomach from the moment I wake up about absolutely nothing. I feel jittery - like I’ve drunk coffee, but I haven’t - for most of the day.

If I hear a weird noise when I’m home alone, my heart races.

I’m pretty normal and have a normal life. Kids, a DH, friends, a part time job, nothing bad is happening in my life.

But is this anxiety? I don’t understand what’s happening!

I don’t really want to go to the GP as it sounds so weird!

Could there be something physically up? Or is it a mental thing?

Hi OP - I was diagnosed with Generalised Anxiety Disorder a little while ago, and my symptoms were very much like yours. I also had panic attacks though. Go and see your GP, they won't think you're weird!

Thank you, wellgosh! I haven’t had any panic attacks.

Do you mind me asking what helps you - talk therapy? Exercise?

Oh, and I also don't really have anything specific in my life to be anxious about - I just worry involuntarily. As I said to my dear old dad when he said, "I don't get it; what have you got to be anxious about?" - "It really, really doesn't work like that dad!!"

Sorry, cross posted! My GP was reluctant to put me on medication, so I had a few sessions of one to one counselling over the phone with a lovely lady who really helped me to understand that I wasn't going mad! I then did some group CBT sessions where you get taught techniques to help you cope with the symptoms of anxiety and panic. I also reduced stress in my life by giving up my volunteering role, (it was too much on top of working full time). I wouldn't say I'm cured - I still have some stonking panic attacks occasionally and I find it very hard not to worry. I'm better than I was though. And yes to exercise and fresh air, even getting out for a walk really helps.

OP I’ve had this recently completely randomly although mine is linked to a phobia albeit a totally ridiculous one. I’ve never experienced anything like it before and the panic attacks were terrifying.
I’ve just this week started taking Kalms tablets and honestly it’s made the anxiety totally disappear. I appreciate it may be a complete placebo but I don’t care as long as I feel normal again!

Thank you, wellgosh! So good to hear talk therapy and fresh air is helping.

I also live somewhere VERY polluted (something I genuinely do feel anxious about and am trying to move!) and can’t help but wonder if there’s a correlation? Or if I’m just overthinking it....

(And there isn’t any fresh air around here to breathe!)

Definitely go and see your GP - if you get an unsympathetic one then ask to see someone else, don't be fobbed off! If you'd rather not have medication ask if you can try counselling first.

Please go to your GP! It could be your thyroid. An overactive thyroid can cause the exact symptoms you describe.
(Of course it may well be anxiety. But go to your GP and they can help, whatever the cause)
