Stopping citalopram

Hi just wanted to hear experience from anyone who has successfully stopped citalopram.

I have been taking it for around 3 years, attempted to stop last year but it was a disaster, I couldn't stop crying I had awful electric shock like feelings all over, I had to take the off work as well.

I am now feeling in a much better position mentally to stop so have a appointment on Friday to discuss it with my GP, she had already said that because I 'failed' once it would be a difficult process done very slowly.

I am really worried I can't really take time off of work, does anyone have any advice or stories they would share, any advice would be great.

I think tiny increments is definitely the way to go. Good luck!

Yes, I felt flat on it too, with deadened emotions.

It helped me through a tough time and was a useful crutch, but it had its downsides, and after some years (and psychotherapy) I felt ready to come off it. So I did, very gradually.

I totally understand both why you would take it in the first place and why you would prefer to come off it now.

I found a company on the web called
Taperingstrips.org

They do a tapering for you, for each day of the week. At a slow process you decide on.
As it’s very difficult when you want to drop by tiny amount and also when you get to where you can’t cut it in less than xxx or use liquid from then

There in Denmark (I think)
But they take NHS prescription
So I think from a quick read, you get your gp to sign it

Getting them to do it may be a fight
But it’s your health and NO ad’s should ever be rushed regards what
Psych’s & gp’s say
They are not the ones going through the ordeal, there interested in there budget only

Have a look citalopram is on the listing
