I feel like I have been totally fobbed off and am not really getting any help.

I was initially referred by my GP in January, attended a workshop in March and then didn't get anywhere really until July, where I was put on to this online CBT course following a phone interview.

I've been doing the programme but am not finding it particularly helpful. It seems to be designed for the lowest common denominator and isn't teaching me anything new.

I've been in talking therapies several times before but never CBT. I was hoping strategies would help me but this kind of programme, where you are left to your own devices doesn't seem to suit me.

I only complete tasks when I know it's going to be checked or when I am not feeling too down. It will come to an end soon and I will just be left in the same situation as before, stuck on ADs with no other help offered.

Has anyone used it and found it helped them? It feels like a solution which means a lot of people can be 'treated' without using up resources, which I know are limited but I'm already extremely isolated and having therapy with an app is not really doing anything to combat that.

I had to use it before I could have counselling. To be honest I found it useless. It was a hoop I had to jump through! On a positive when I got counselling it helped me a lot. Good luck to you OP Thanks

Same OP. Spend a distressing hour of phone assessment telling iapt all about the many and various plans I have for killing myself, and they refer me to a waiting list for an online therapy course. How are you finding it op? I've read every CBT book under the sun and do try to do the exercises (I know I could try more - hopefully the programme will help with that). So I don't know if the online course will have anything new to offer me.

I have. It feels like a get out clause from the iapt. It was that or wait a year or ten for cbt. I don't think it's particularly helpful and I suspect the feedback is some kind of chatbot...

ValancyRedfern · 20/09/2019 17:55

I also don't get why it has a waiting list if it's just web resources.

Sorry, I've only just seen these responses. I am still not getting on well with it. I've nearly completed it and don't know what happens next. I do feel really fobbed off. I'm feeling particularly vulnerable at the moment and need real support, not just watered down, generalised online therapy. It's all stuff I either know or strategies I have tried myself before but it's a struggle to even log on sometimes.

The feedback is a cut and paste job.

Hope you are doing better. Agree it doesn't sound perfect for your immediate needs perhaps. Are you maybe able to call Samaritans of another helpline to get some listening?

CBT can be very effective but (like everything) is dependent on the course structure and presenter. IMHO you could do a lot worse than studying it - this course is excellent;
