Will being signed off work with stress stop me getting a new job?

NC for this.
Diabolical situation at work, with bullying manager. Have tried to resolve it but to no avail.
I am really anxious and feel sick at the thought of going in. I am thinking of going to doctor and asking to be signed off for stress. To be honest I doubt I'll go back and I am hoping this will give me the strength to hand my notice in and find something else.
However if I get signed off for stress, will this go against me when I apply for other jobs? Really not sure what to do for the best, thanks.

It's very hard to say. Perhaps if they write "work related stress" then it can be clear that it's that particular working environment that is causing the problem. In my job if you are off for 4 weeks+ it is called long term absence and they would be allowed to mention that to a new employer - I don't think they can say what it is though.
Being signed off could be part of the process of resolving/improving your situation. When you say you've tried unsuccessfully to resolve it, what have they done so far?

...employment section could be useful to repost in if you don't get a lot of replies here Flowers

Thank you. I thought maybe making the stress about work would be worse, but I see your point.
It's a long story believe me!

I hope it works out for you. If you could hold on and apply for jobs straight away that might be easier - but if you would have to wait a while for a new job that could impact on your mental health. You could have a week off with less impact and take stock - then go back while applying like crazy?
