Hi has any one ever come off quitireapine I’ve been on them since I was 26 at 200mg, I’m planning on having a baby with my new partner, but I’m scared as hell about the side effects 😢 or what I’m gonna be like when I do

I take far more but have at various times reduced/ stopped them.

Stopping without reducing them is awful. No sleep, constant nausea, felt awful.

Reducing to stop is better but still not nice. Again insomnia which really gets to me, but far less nausea.

I stopped one year over Christmas without reducing them and I remember my husband driving me and the kids back from my parents house. It should have taken 2 and a half hours, it think it took 4. Constant having to stop so I could get out as I felt so sick. I promptly got home and necked my usual dose and slept for about 18 hours straight.

It may be easier for you as you are on a much lower dose. I wouldn’t stop without talking to your Dr and planning it well.

Good luck

Hi, I was actually put on them while pregnant, started at 25, Dr wanted lowest possible therapeutic dose (I just wrote and deleted some paranoid thoughts I had at the time). Went gradually up to 75, not long before giving birth prematurely. After giving birth I increased to 125, then after 6 months decreased gradually. Have you spoken to a Dr about pregnancy, I don't think they're recommend but 200is quite low still I think. If you come off it, be prepared to possibly go back on it when pregnant. Coming off it I had no side effects except going from 50 to 25, just felt more on edge didn't sleep so well but not full on insomnia.

Sorry, not very clear, id speak to a Dr as pregnancy hormones can mess with your mental health, at the low dose your on they may recommend staying on your medication while trying to conceive.

The difficult thing with medication in pregnancy is they can't do clinical trials on pregnant women so there's not much information out there for relatively new medication like quetiapine. So you really have to make a judgement. In my head I had around 700 being a normal dose and I looked it up it's more like 300-600, sometimes 800. bnf.nice.org.uk/drug/quetiapine.html it's around 700 that there becomes detectable levels in breastmilk as I breastfeed with it.

Also at 26, you probably have at least another good 10 years of childbearing. No need to rush. Good luck in what you choose.

Watching with interest, I’m on 500mg and thinking about stopping soon

Congratulations on your new relationship, but no need to rush, it's not now or never, you've got at least 10 good childbearing years yet.
