Forgive my ignorance but I don't know if my cousin has either of the above? My reason for posting is I don't know how to deal with them when they come to stay and I have had a few bad experiences so am looking for help really. Cousin is over 60 now and so have never been diagnosed... symptoms include talking non stop - not so much a conversation as a lecture/monologue... playing the same song over and over again... no self awareness (doesn't appreciate having meals made, washing up done several times a day during visit - follows me at talks at me while I do all of these things)... gets verbally aggressive when challenged by others... accuses others of doing things they are supposed to have done/said over 30 years ago! What do you think?

Why are they coming to stay?

thistimeofyear · 31/05/2019 23:12

because I feel sorry for them and no one else in the family has them to stay

I couldn’t label those behaviors but I would limit the visit so you only deal with as much as u can cope with. Bless you.

I'm no saint believe me - I avoid phone calls because it is literally one way conversation the whole time and it drives me round the bend so I decided instead I would have them to stay once a year - but last time was a nightmare and my DD actually got quite scared when they started raising their voice/shouting - so probably I should just say never again?

Have they always been like this or just in recent years?

always like it as far as I can remember - think it is prob more mental illness but there is def some spectrum there at the root of it all

A few of the things you have described is ASD traits, I sometimes forget people aren't interested in listening to me waffle on about my interests.

ASD?
I think having interests and talking about them is fine really... some people are really not interested in others at all however - if you limit your talking to a few mins you are fine really

ASD - Autistic Spectrum Disorder

I have always had intense obsessive interests, I don't always realise people don't care
